Michelle welcomed members and guests. She enlightened us on a topic from the USA equivalent of RDU, the Rotarian. That editorial reviewed the significant celebration in Arch C. Klumph home town of Cleveland. The 100 year acknowledgement of Rotary Foundation concert featuring the Cleveland Orchestra and Banquet. Four couples were inducted to the Arch C. Klumph Society, at that function. That celebration alone raised US$ 2.1 million. Only four new cases of Polio this year, so far. 2 in Afghanistan and 2 in Pakistan. Nice email letter from Chris and Penny Offer, Rotary Ladner. Thanking our club and hosts for great fellowship shown to them and Sandra O'Keefe, last week.
Guest Speaker Dr Gregg Dunn, presented an update to where Starfish is at. He noted the long association with Rotary Matamata, whose support has not gone unnoticed . He commented that it is unfortunate that Starfish ,is little understood on what it tries to accomplish. Holistic Care and welfare of youth initially, that now encompasses challenged family environments. Starfish formally formed, with a governance board. It is hoped the Rawhiti former rest home, may be now a permanent base from which to operate, after limited tenure in many places around Matamata.. To enable strategy's on alcohol,drugs and illiteracy to have successful outcomes. Another huge social concern is that there is 560 at risk families with issues that includes family violence. 150 of those are assigned to Starfish. There is a huge unfunded amount of social work that support from our community is vital. The politics of this underfunding with Primary Health organisation is a challenge. The issues Starfish addresses, will not go away. Police do notice less crime statistics by youth since Starfish inception. Dr Dunn in finishing referred to the numerous agencies to seek funding support for the following 2016/17 work load.:- Counselling, After school care, Holiday programme, Social work/Anti bullying, Family safety/Family violence, supervised access, Alternate education and a Drop in aspect for immediate information at Starfish HQ. Jo McNaughton at conclusion gave her aspirations for what she puts into Starfish, so youth can get a hope, a life and a dream.

Stalwart extraordinaire for the wellbeing of youth and families of our district, who have challenges and difficulties to overcome. She accomplishes that through Starfish support structure and mentoring programmes.
Dr Greg Dunn, retiring chair of Starship. Recognises the need to have a permanent base for Starship endeavours. Wants to see new members on the Board of Governance. Two Rotarians are currently members of the Board.
Barry Mckey, is our Rotary Matamata Historian and archivist. Notes the original Charter was signed on 9th May 1947. Our seventieth year.
Walkway project next stage now underway. Kevin Sing had called for available members to meet at the project site, Thursday morn 29th.,to discuss with the grazier and plan a work programme to accomplish the walkway to Dawson Street. A big tree is to be removed by another party.
Club welcomed guests Wade Linnell, Tony Lawes, Jane Belton, Chris Wilson with Jean Muckle as always; a very welcome attendee.

The realisation of this Rotary Organisation, as a significant world wide influence was when he attended World Convention in Sydney. Eighteen thousand attendee's from all corners of the world. Atlanta is expecting 40,000 to this years Convention. His Sydney experience included all the associated networks presented that do good in the world with Rotary International. One such one was "Days for Girls', to which we know Lisette Hulme has been a huge influence to promote.
A sad instance in recent times is of a Kiwi Coffee vendor having a Rotary Foundation collection box. On his enquiry, the vendor indicated her local Rotary Club appeared to be just a social club. Owen has yet to decide to write a letter to that club, for clarification.

We are very pleased that our Exchange student has been welcomed by such an important and affectionate Club. Dani with Gordon Lukies and Robert Stuart (right), last meeting. Dani thought her sports camp was really good. More than she expected, for prior to camp she thought it may be boring. Which was clearly quite the opposite. "Pretty Cool" was her summation. Camp activities included Touch Rugby, Volly Ball, Water Slide and spot lighting hide and seek at night. Dani gives her first presentation to members next meeting, we look forward to that.

Henry Clothier briefed us on Mike Steiners' lucky escape , when his bulldozer rolled OVER him. Soft ground appears to be his saviour. We understand you will be up and running soon Mike. ps. I expect a sergeant's fine will welcome you back to Rotary meetings, before too long.
Entertainment Books now promoted by Inner Wheel, as a fund raiser. $65 and available in electronic form or the usual book format. Shunt sheet will be going around next meeting, where you can chose the format you require.
FLU vaccination next week, 5pm to 5.30pm before meeting starts.
Matamata Volunteer Fire Brigade have invited Rotary to attend a night at the Fire Station to show us the valuable equipment that we have contributed to for rescue and fire duties.

Where: Matamata Fire Station
Time: 6.30pm
A demonstration of equipment being used will be carried out.
They require numbers for catering. A shunt sheet will go around next week.
