President David: A big welcome home to Sergeant Maz McIvor, PDG Leonie Tisch and Richard Metcalfe who have all arrived back after periods overseas. President David had a little dig at our resident “Aussie” Gordon Lukies hoping he had voted in the election, to which Gordon replied he had to go to Auckland to do so.
Field Days begin this week so it is going to be a busy time for the president with his role in that. David hopes that a number of members will get across to Mystery Creek to have a look around in the next few days.
Farm Watch – Nitrate Poisoning. Be aware if you are grazing fresh pasture that growth rates have been phenomenal and nitrate poisoning could be a danger .
Next week is our auction night – we have invited members from Cambridge, Te Aroha, Putaruru and Morrinsville to come along so it will be a very busy night indeed. To assist with the administration of the evening, if you could let David Hulme know by email (david@theboltholder.co.nz) what you are bringing to be auctioned that would help us immensely. A number of members have already done this so thank you if you have. Just a reminder that we are trying to steer this auction away from being a white elephant event – there will be a garage sale coming up later in the year to which you can donate white elephant items. Proceeds are going to College Volleyball players who have been chosen in a number of different New Zealand teams to compete overseas.
Guest Speakers: Felicity and Stephen Stone (and their 3-month old daughter Eloise). Subject: Soul Church.
'Welcome back to the Fold' (L) Sergeant Maz McIvor, Richard Metcalfe and PDG Leonie Tisch, who have all arrived back after periods overseas.

Young parents Felicity and Stephen presented to us about Soul Church, which has been operating in Matamata for about 15 years. Stephen is Operations Manager at Totara Springs while Felicity is a teacher who is currently on maternity leave.
They told us that Soul Church’s mission statement is “Building a Community that finds freedom and hope and unconditional love through Jesus.” Soul Church has about 80 adults and countless children attending services every Friday night. Everybody is welcome and a wide variety of people come along. Outside the service, Soul does numerous things including their free Pool Day event at the beginning of each year. They help Operation Christmas Child putting together 100 shoe boxes of Christmas cheer for children in the developing world. They are strong supporters of Christmas in the Park and also have a lunch outreach programme running within Matamata Intermediate School, while also helping out with meals/groceries for new mums and people in the community who are struggling.
Within the church, they run a kids programme on Friday afternoon for children from School Years 1 – 8 which involves some peer mentoring and they also hold an older youth group. Adults also have plenty of events that cater for their needs.
“Soul is a special place and we really enjoy being a part of it. Soul really is here for the Matamata community – it is a place for people in Matamata to hear about God and feel at home,” Stephen says.
He also indicated that Soul was looking at ways of partnering with Rotary on projects in the community as there was a definite synergy between what both are trying to do in the community.
