David Hulme, opened the meeting, welcoming our guests and then talked about this day in history and mentioned Kate Edger who became the first woman in New Zealand to gain a university degree and the first woman in the British Empire to earn a Bachelor of Arts (BA). in 1882 she became the first principal of Nelson College for Girls.  Jane also mentioned Lorraine Downs winning Miss Universe 40 years ago. Sue Whiting informed us she was involved in the Miss Universe competition that year.

 

David Hulme had given Peter Vossen the task of trying to guess who the mystery clues related to. Peter Vossen did a great job of investigating who the mystery members was. He thought he knew who the person was from the clues, "broke my from tooth in farming accident, first car was a Toyota and was first to do something in the Waikato". He came to the conclusion that it was either Robbie Pearson or Mike Steiner, finally deciding on Mike Steiner. His reasoning where hilarious something about “balls on tees.... put sadly he had to pay into the fines box as the mystery member was actually President Jane, who then explained how she lost her tooth.

 

David also announced his choice for this weeks "Good Sort", being one of our newest members Ray Coote. David said that Ray was always putting his hand up and volunteering for all the projects and events we are involved in. Well done Ray. 

 

 

Michelle Tanner introduced the new Interact board of Summer Vaughan (President), Katelyn Smythe (Treasure), and Emerson Diprose (Projects Manager). They all spoke about why they wanted to join Interact. Unfortunately Molly Hollis (Vice President), Lucille Yoeman (Secretary) could not make the meeting.

 

 

David Hulme introduced our guest speaker David Partis who spoke about Safety on the Internet. Showing slides about passwords and examples of apps that can be used to help store and protect passwords. He also talked about anti virus apps which he used and why. He gave us examples of the latest scams and highlighted what to look for, eg mis spelt emails addresses and why not to click on links. This presentation followed on nicely from what Miranda at Westpac spoken about. Members asked if David would be happy to share his presentation and he was, so Jane will send out next week.

 

 

David was also very happy to receive his Certificate for being our speaker. 

 
Next week is community night with the club making a visit to The Boltholder from 5.30 onwards. Please assemble at The Boltholder. David mentioned that due to it been there 40th anniversary, they will put on some beers and pizzas, so please put in your apology if you are not going so that they have an idea of numbers.
