Hi everyone. Well we have been having a few chilly mornings lately with a few decent frosts but have been blessed with some stunning days.
Hope you have all managed to watch some of the Womens World Cup Soccer. Some great games being played by top class athletes. We are very lucky to be the co-host and I think we are doing a great job at it. Also World Cup Netball is underway so go the Silver Ferns and I would be very amiss if I did not mention that massive Bledisloe Cup that remains with us after the All Blacks gave the Wallabies a bit of whipping on Saturday night. Was certainly worth waiting up for that's for sure.
David Hulme opened the evening by welcoming our guests Rotary Zone 8 Major Gifts Advisor Jennie Herring, District Governor Bill Robinson, Assistant District Governor Doug Lang and District Foundation Chair Ken Smith as well as Sandra Hunter and Matamata Inner Wheel President Brenda Linnell.
This week’s Good Sort was Brian Hunter for his continuing community service for the Fire Brigade, Health Shuttle and Community Patrol.
David then invite Lyn Dobbe up to the front to tell us who she thought the Mystery Rotarian was. From the three clues, Lyn decided it was a male member of the club and set about ringing male members over the week and questioning them. She had great time catching up with all these men and some of their wives, even talking to Mike Steiner for 2 hours. Unfortunately her research came to no avail, so she started calling the lady members and finally on calling Sheryl she discovered that in fact Sheryl was the Mystery Rotarian.
Lyn then deiced that Job should be the next person to investigate the Mystery Rotarian. The clues are
1/ I represented Australasia at a Convention in Tokyo
2/ I studied senior management at the Australasian Institute of Police Management
3/ I have officiated a sports event between Australia and New Zealand.
Look forward to finding out who this person is…. We have a few members born in Australia?

Merv King did a great job of introducing Jennie Herring and outlining her Rotary CV. Jennie is an owner operator of a retirement facility.
Jennie joined the Rotary Club of Otahuhu Inc in 1997. She was Club President 2007-2008, Assistant Governor from 2011 to 2013. Jennie is a Paul Harris Fellow, a member of the Paul Harris Society and also a Foundation Major Donor. Jennie was District Governor for District 9920 in 2015/16 when her District theme was Share your Passions - Inspire All.
Jennie is currently The Rotary Foundation Endowment and Major Gifts Advisor for Zone 8. Jennie came along to inform Rotarians about the opportunities and benefits of donating to The Rotary Foundation. Her visit enabled her to meet existing and potential Major Donors, Paul Harris Society and Bequest Society members and publicize the recognition dinners being held in Brisbane, Sydney, Christchurch and in Auckland later in the year.
Her presentation outlined the different levels of the foundation from Zone Directors, district structure of which Michelle holds a few of the different positions (well done Michelle, we don’t know how you find time in the day but you do, keep up the great work).
Jennie outlined her role as Endowment and Major Gifts Advisor which she her as a fundraiser, collaborator, Knowledge Centre and Educator.
Jenni told us her personal reason for giving to the Foundation, it was due to been left money in her mother’s will, she now proudly wears the pendant in memory of her mum.
Jenni then had the great pleasure of presenting Sandra Hunter with the Foundation Major Donor level 1 recognition. Sandra very kindly donates all her earnings from her role as a Celebrant to the Foundation as a memory to her mother and mother’s sister who suffered from Polio as young children. Sandra received a crystal recognition piece and a Major Donor pin and pendant.
Congratulations Sandra, we are very proud of the work that you do and your outstanding generosity towards the Rotary foundation.
