President David, after we had devoured our now in place Pizza finger food Club Night meal, as first meeting of the month." Grab your rural dessert, and we'll get started". Welcomed our guests and members to this club night, that Jane Belton; programme has in place. " Thank you Gary Moore, for presenting me with a President Donald Trump Red Cap. Wore it a few times and received many varied comments". I note that Mr Trump has increased support to USA Soya bean growers from 15b$us to 30b$us, because of tariff idiosyncrasy of trade rules with China. President David visited Sandra Hunter QSM, to add a Paul Harris Pin as recognition of her commitment to our community in so many ways, One being, as a Celebrant, Sandra donates her fee to Rotary Foundation. Sandra does not like being centre of attention, albeit so deserving. I made a personal visit as President of Rotary Matamata to formally present to her a Paul Harris Pin and acknowledged why her good self deserved this Paul Harris Fellowship recognition. NO Formal Farm Watch report, except for Leo Kingston to be aware of the need, to be conservative with budgeting for next 12 months. Annual General Meeting is the 25th June. General Business Items need to be in the hands of Secretary Dave Johnson, seven (7) days prior. Directors are number crunching dollars reference increased costs, such as District fees. I anticipate that a member subscription revision will be presented for consideration at the AGM.

For those who read this bulletin outside of New Zealand, our Dairy farming season is accepted as 1st June to May 31st the following year. Therefore 99% of farm purchase changeover of owners, Sharemilker's ( a form of share farming business arrangement) and farm employees move to different properties. Herds of cows and classes of livestock, household effects, farm vehicles and machinery criss cross the country side of NZ. In more recent times, trucking livestock has taken precedence due to the exponential road vehicle traffic numbers over the past three decades. As before then, dairy herds and other class's of bovine and ovine livestock were quite commonly droven on roads, it as not unusual to have droving roads across from district to district plus some streets in many rural towns designated droving right of ways. Being professional stockmen and woman , it was not uncommon for herds to have to pass bye each other and without mix up. Except two of our members recollections remember railway trains were responsible for scattering stock in many directions, on the outskirts of urban towns while in the process of droving cattle between properties. Recollections brought smiles to the themselves and the audience, but at the time a problem to resolve. Dry stock beef and sheep farm properties normally changed hands end of March early April. Our one Sheep farmer story remembers droving quite a significant mob of sheep between properties, down our main State Highway 1, ( the main road route between Wellington and Auckland) circa early 1970's. In those days, sheep dogs, livestock had precedence in the road code over motor vehicles, Woe betide any driver that hit an animal or dog . Unfortunately now, vehicle drivers do not have the patience in regards to livestock, and in many cases not even an idea of the relevance that primary agriculture export income, is still a significant export earner New Zealand.
So Thanks to the personal experience contributions at the lectern By: Harry Russell, Fred Barrett, Robert Stewart, David Gasquione , Stewart Wadey and Peter Thissen whose professional engineering expertise came to the fore, when a newly arrived farmer in the district wanted a nut the diameter of his thumb and a bolt an inch longer than his finger !!! June 1st is still referred to as Gypsy Day in the dairy farming world in New Zealand. ( Crisscross definition, to move back and forth over:).
