Evening all says Peter. Acknowledged ROMAC 9930 District Chair Glenys Parton,Vinna aged 7 with Mum Korina both from Vanuatu. He hoped everyone is revitalised over the past weekend, for the week ahead. On behalf of our Club, condolences to Henry Clothier and Family , Dave Johnson and Family for their recent loss of close family members. I am sure everyone appreciates the bar shout from the Boltholder this evening, Business Excellence 2017 Awardee. Peter highlighted and appreciated the progress with the Walkway project, with a working bee that will be organised shortly. Went into a bit of history in how New Zealand Labour day was eventually gazetted in 1910 by NZ Government Statute, as the 4th Monday of the Month of October.It was championed from 28th October 1890, by Samual Parnell. A man who petitioned for the 8 hour working day for employee's. This present day  New Zealand actually is third behind Japan and Republic of Korea (South Korea) for having employees work far in excess of 8 hours a day. Peter then initiated our full meeting agenda.

Guest speaker Glenys Parton, ROMAC 9930 District Chair is no stranger to our Club. Her passion and commitment to the principles of ROMAC, was very evident in her presentation. Glenys brought with her to our meeting a very special person in Vinna (7), chaperoned by her Mum Korina. Their home country is Vanuatu. Vinna had a very serious leg injury with advanced infection when presented to ROMAC medical volunteers visiting Vanuatu, who immediately prioritised her for Auckland Starship Children's Hospital. The infection and an unjoined broken leg was successfully remedied, but she lost significant muscle tone in her legs due to no mobility for a very extended time; prior to this medical intervention. So now, orthopaedic physiotherapy is underway, to prepare her for her and Mum to return to Vanuatu. Their stay in Hamilton is with a sponsor family, Bruno and Margaret who also is a registered nurse. Glenys in her presentation, gave a good overview to where Rotary Oceania Medical Aid for Children health and welfare initiatives are at, from within a huge catchment of the Pacific that is Melanesia, Polynesia and Micronesia. Plus Glenys touched on how operationally it differs with Interplast, which is another worthy Rotary supported humanitarian endeavour. She articulated that financial contributions are diminishing, with District 9930 no exemption. Only 8 of the 54 Rotary Clubs that make up District 9930, donated to the cause. ROMAC is basically strapped for cash, to support the volunteered skills that restore dignity and life enhancing procedures to such compromised children. Surgeons are sad, when many older children are presented to them with heart valve damage by rheumatic fever, that cannot be medically repaired. So in finishing, she urges us to consider PACT. P- Personally donate: A- Annual Budget of our Club: C-Choose a Champion: T- Tell the story to others. President Peter with our Club ROMAC champion Maz McIvor, presented a cheque for $3000.Bruno finished employed work in Hamilton, drove down to pick up Vinna and Korina and take them home. Bruno and his nurse practitioner good lady, quite be rightly be called unsung hero's for their goodwill.

Went to Aussie with a travel companion recently. Enjoying some R & R, ended up in Noosa about midday....... but not one accommodation vacancy available. believing in his sense of direction proceeded up what he thought was the Sunshine Coast highway in search of overnight comfortable lodgings. No,need to use the GPS! But ended up at a location called Nuburr ,in what seemed to be high in the hills in the middle of nowhere.  Time was getting on, finally gave the GPS instructions, that gave directions Brisbane and 3 hours away....which proved to be correct. In reflection, that experience makes him smile !!!!!
