Michelle welcomed members and guests to yet another well attended meeting. Acknowledged PDG Geoff Mathis as she reminded us of another RNZWCS project Rotary Matamata support. Shelter Boxes and Emergency Response Kits (ERKs).Right now, Haiti badly damaged by Hurricane Matthew saw Shelter Boxes and RRKs immediately despatched courtesy of the Dutch Navy. Contents of Shelter Boxes can be prepared as to actual content,so to suit the emergency situation that has arose. ERKs contents are basically the same content wise. In our Rotary NZ ,district 9920 that includes Auckland and most of the Pacific Islands get involved if an emergency situation presents itself in that region. ERKs are the predominant aid immediately given in this region. In response to question from Dave Wheadon, directors will be asked to consider continued support to fund Shelter Boxes ($1500 ea.) and ERK.s ($600 ea.) Shelter Boxes are traceable anywhere in the world, as to where they are, ERKs are not traceable. Club guests are Sean Leighton and Bill Lauchlan Rotary Papamoa, Lyn Dobbe and Amy Crozier considering joining our club, plus cousins Bruce, Ross and Martin Watkins of Piarere.
PDG Geoff Mathis, Spoke on the Kondiki Co-Operative Dairy milk processing facility, Mmika, Tanzania. A few challenges to a proven project concept.
Geoff pulled no punches, as to the challenges to make the Kondiki Co-Operative Dairy milk processing facility a successful project. The business environment in Mwika Tanzania has challenged the project with unexpected costs , run down inventory , management and staffing issues plus vital capital that appears to have been spirited away from the core business operational requirements. Geoff has seen great improvements in livestock feeding and some better genetic milking cows on farms. Production on milk production can vary from 1 litre per cow a day to some herds achieving 15 litres a day. Unfortunately the average production is quite low. He recapped from his previous presentation, phase one was 2008 t0 2014.NZAID and Rotary funded 190 stainless steel 5 & 10 ltr milk cans, 1000 Animal Husbandry booklets, installed 600ltr /hour milk processing plant at Kondiki at a cost NZD$330.ooo plus 36 biogas digesters. Phase two2015-18 off to a positive start with NZD$702,000 funding from the 6 Rotary districts, NZAID and a substantial Rotary Global Grant with the backing of RNZWCS.
Geoff is confident the unnecessary red tape within the 'powers to be', some major hurdles imposed by regulators last few months by imposing a sales tax costing $30,000.00, which blew out the budgets of expenditure upgrades between 10% and 15%. Being honest, not all 'beer and skittles at the moment'. Geoff on the 3rd August presented to the Grants Co- Ordinators at Rotary HQ, Evanston, USA. Supported the project ,but quite rightly, they reiterated the disciplines that do not allow shifting of allocated funds to bridge shortfalls in other areas. Geoff is confident that with everyones support, we can work through all the challenges that confront us with this project. An immediate requirement that requires further funds of NZD$7000, is to replenish the spare part reserve at Kondiki. He asks our club, are we able to assist?

The shunt sheet has still blank spaces not allocated for our club members to actually attend fellow peer clubs to promote the event. Brochures , tickets and a written presentation speil that will last no longer than 90 seconds, Has now been provided;and club visits have been arranged by members so to promote the concert. Lynette S. has numbered tickets, aiming for 800 concert goers.

17th November, Cambridge Rotary at the Cambridge Trots fund raising dinner.. 3 causes being supported, one of which is "Days for Girls". $75 pp. 50% of which actually goes into the distribution pool . Contact David Hulme for tickets .

PRM this meeting was Owen Westlake. His interest in Rotary was through a Rotary Speech contest as a 4th former at Morrinsville College. Joined Rotary Winton in 2004, with highlights of maintaining tracks with DoC on Stewart Island. Building insulated huts with 'green' timber on Cod Fish Island west of Stewart Island, then seeing Kakapo on that island go from 23 to 130 because of the accommodation they built for 'caregivers' to nurse and promote Kakapo survival on Cod Fish Island. Retiring back to Matamata, his highlight has been the establishment of our Rotary Matamata Commemorative Walkway, Peria Rd.
We still need a few more members for club visits to promote Concert by the Lake.
A presentation of about 90 seconds is made available, brochures , a few numbered tickets and a reconciliation sheet for your host club to use for ticket allocation and payment.
David Hulme thrust into being junior NCO as no sergeant nor corporal were on club parade. John Fernyhough and Eric Muckle share the same birthday date as our meeting date.." what!! no bar shout came the cry!!!". then with Peter Vossen buying the box " As all good parents do!! do $800 of vehicle damage while moving a daughters household effects". I do believe I heard murmurs of similar scenario's resonate with members, and we still love them !!!
