Rotary Foundation Chair Michelle receiving her award

Anyone would think by all the photos it was the "Nick Dangerfield Show", but we were so appreciative that he and Maria found time in their busy schedule to join us.

Dave G presenting Tank with a $1000 cheque for our volunteer fire service.
Robert was very surprised when asked to come up and receive his first PHF. His family came in to be a part of this celebration.

How do you then keep the surprise going for the next recipient? You ask him up to give a message to the Club... and then... Kevin was thrilled to also become the  World's latest PHF! Congratulations.

Chief Fire Officer Kevin (Tank) Curtis

For our Christmas celebrations we went to the Fire Station, and had a fabulous dinner, catered by The Old Forge. After the above awards were handed out, Emcee Nicole introduced Chief Kevin. He has been a volunteer for Matamata Fire Brigade for 49 years, and was awarded the Queen's service medal in 2021 for his inspiring dedication to serving and protecting his community. He spoke of the challenges of managing his work and fire brigade and family life.
Whilst they are given the majority of equipment required, there are always the extras that just make the job a bit easier; like a special dryer for their gear - previously they have had it taken away to Tauranga to be dried - at a huge time cost- so getting that will be incredibly beneficial.
Tank and his wife Carol have been such a huge part of our community so to be able to help them in any way is so rewarding.

Bryce Scott sadly passed away December 4 aged 87. He moved here from the King Country in 1995, and joined Rotary in 1999. He enjoyed several Directorship roles, and was a keen Spud in the Bucket competitor. Seen here receiving a PHF in the 2010/11 year. Ever the gentleman, and although he and wife Sonia moved him away a couple of years ago, we will miss him and remember him fondly.
