Parting Thought

by Lynette Stanley

"Lockdown can go one of four ways: you'll come out a monk, a chunk, a hunk or a drunk. Choose wisely!"

Our 2021-22 Board of Directors
Good early start to tonight's meeting due to it being...

***Melbourne Cup Day***

NZ bred Verry Elleegant won, ridden by kiwi jockey James McDonald, so a great day for NZ!!
There were 3 sweepstakes, congratulations to the winners. The $170 raised after winnings paid out was added to last week's quiz proceeds bringing the total donation amount to $500 for End Polio Now.
Robert thanked David H for his efforts in doing quiz last week and running tonight's sweepstake.
Winner of best dressed male: Robert S, female: Maz and Other was Stew. Rumour was he may not have known what we were dressing up for!!

Excitedly cheering on horses... go you beauty!!

President Presents...

Robert told the delightful tale of watching a hawk hovering nearby then swooping low but suddenly soaring up as a shadow came up from the ground, this happened several times. Perplexed as to the cause Robert checked and found a large hare defending it's family. It would leap up and box the hawk till the hawk finally decided there was an easier meal elsewhere!

On this day
November 2

1950: George Bernard Shaw Nobel prize winner of Literature died.
1960: Penguin Books sought to publish Lady Chatterly's Lover but were brought to trial under the Obscene Publications Act, even though the book had been written 40 years ago. They won their case and brought about long overdue changes to the archaic law.
1976: Jimmy Carter was elected the 39th POTUS (President of the US)
