volume 70, Bulletin 25 Rotary Cub Matamata (Jan 17, 2017)

Michelle welcomed everyone to our first Rotary Meeting for 2017, a BBQ, at the Firth Tower Museum. With many partners and guests taking advantage of fine warm evening weather, plus a Comprehensive tour of our very own link to the history of Matamata and District,. Michelle welcomed guests Michael and Janette Graves, from Workington Rotary Northern England. Michelle still has not seen our Rotary signage that has gone "walk about". Members were encouraged to remember how we packed our Rotary gear up last year, after Concert by the Lake 2016!

Worzel Gummidge welcomed Rotarians to the Firth Tower Museum, and Bob Blackwell gave us an informative conducted tour of the complex.

Fine weather, very conducive to a very pleasant social first meeting of Rotary Matamata 2017. Nice start to the Rotary year.

Surviving restored pylon that carried power through our district, from the HoraHora Dam to the Martha Hill Goldmine at Waihi.

Many well restored buildings of historical significance were open to view, even up to the top of the Firth Tower. The grounds are a credit to the Museum trustees and team.

As with the well presented historical farm machinery used to develop the land, we have one ex telephonist who identified with the old chord type operator switch board.

Mike is a Rotarian with a Workington Club, in the North of England.

Janette and Mike have a family relation in Matamata.

New meeting venue as from 7th February. St John ambulance building. Just a bit of minor administration still to be concluded, but venue is confirmed. I am sure Michelle will mention this next meeting at our RSA bowls evening.

Stew looked up our fellow Rotary Ladner on their web site. They too seem to be very active in their community. I include two items from their Web Page in this bulletin.

Fred Barrett advised that a Rotary Study group from Ladner , Canada are visiting New Zealand. We are to be hosts. Dates presented are nights of 19th,20th and 21st March, they will attend our meeting on Tuesday 21st. 4 couples and 1 female single. Contact Fred if your are able to host our fellow Rotarians from Ladner. More accurate info as to two days of activity that has been suggested. Contingent names and any dietary requests info will be confirmed ASP. (Ladner created as a fishing village on the banks of the Fraser River. It is a part of the Municipality of Delta, British Columbia, Canada, and a suburb of Vancouver)

Fire Wood Available Now.. Courtesy Henry Clothier.

Henry has 32 felled and accessible trees available for anyone who wants to help themselves to the wood.

The wood is free but Henry says feel free to make a donation to the Foundation if you would like to.

The trees are Blackwood and something like Macrocarpa.

What is Physical Literacy?

Physical Literacy has been defined, by the International Physical Literacy Association(2015).

“Physical literacy is the motivation, confidence, physical competence, knowledge and understanding to value and take responsibility for engagement in physical activities for life”.

Children and youth should be getting at least 60 Minutes of moderate-vigorous physical activity every day. (Canadian Physical Activity Guidelines,2015).

One of the topics discussed by Rotary Ladner recently, as reported on their web site.

Krishna will have his eye catching sign, outside our new meeting venue.. Rotary Matamata will be holding our meetings, at the St Johns building from 7 February 2017.

Someone must have put it away after last Concert, we do need to find our Banner !!!!!!!
