The Bardsley Family. Kevin, Monique, Skyla and Seanna wait patiently for weigh in to be concluded. Great to have families compete regularly every year. It is a popular event.
 
Below we have team colours including matching hair tint, these boys bring in their buckets to be sorted and spuds weighed for our Rotary Matamata "Spud in the bucket" fun competition. With Mum Lisa Hine are in green, William and in blue Lucas plus we cannot forget Nana Michelle on the left.
Behind the scenes for adjudication. Buckets are presented, identified to a person and then our sorting team carefully sift the spuds from the growing medium. Spuds to be eligible for weigh in MUST be attached to the root system. Name and weight are documented in the category of adult or child for prizes, which includes the lowest weight. A good fun project.
Rotary Matamata could not promote this fun community competition, with out the support of our sponsors.

Conor Thomson and Alesha Kelly, 2nd highest and lowest respectively were not available at presentation time.
Maz McIvor has the distinction of being 2017 lowest weight adult spud grower, with a whooping light weight of 58 grams (0.058 kg). Maz was presented with her prize by Michelle. Such prizes are all part of the fun.
Collectively, a combined weight of eligible and ineligible entries was 107.271 Kgs.
The potatoes were donated to the Matamata Food Bank, for distribution in our community at their discretion.
As a foot note, the competition on average sees over 50% of 'spud in the bucket' participants actually attend the Weigh In.

The Troughton Family name has for many years been contestants in Rotary Matamata 'Spud in the Bucket'. Tina Troughton took out second place in the adult category,with a very respectable weight of 6.532 kgs.

All sweet at the Railside Green, the rain did not dampen the anticipation of competitors, who many have ' spud in the bucket' reputations to uphold as Kings and Queens of spud cultivation !!!! Dani with Host Mum Ann Clothier (who incidentally identified herself with one of Snow Whites' Dwarfs) and John 'soil removal expert' Fernyhough.
 
Todos los dulces en el verde Railside, la lluvia no amortiguar la anticipación de los competidores, que muchos han "spud en el cubo" reputaciones para mantener como reyes y reinas de spud cultivo !!!! Leonie Tisch attended Rotary International Assembly in San Diego recently. Absorbing all what is required to support Rotary and Rotarians, for her soon position of District Governor 9930 for 2017/2018. Along with husband Lindsay and NZ/Pacific Islands contingent, were well hosted by US Rotary Clubs pre and post the week long assembly. One of the cuisine highlights was delegates had to produce at a function, a choice of members country of origin delights !!! Leonie was all smiles when New Zealand produced Pineapple Lumps, Jaffas and Manuka Honey Chocolates. 20% of Governor Elects were female.  Lindsay as a partner of Governor Elects was also well looked after during Assembly, but it was not long ago that such partners were shown how to fold serviettes and how to pack their husbands travel suitcase!!!!.....But Rotary has changed, Lindsay with an important job on our behalf in supporting Leonie with her important role as District Governor 9930.
