David Johnson - Help required for Brass Band Regionals over weekend 21 - 22 September 2019 at Matamata Intermediate. 6-8 helpers on Saturday, including 2 arriving at 8:30am and others just after 9:00am. Hope to be finished by 4:00pm. For Sunday, need 5 helpers at 8:00am and hope to finish 4:00pm.

Miranda Thomson - Daughter Ruby is doing well on exchange in Australia. Only a few weeks left. Different to life in New Zealand. High ropes courses completed in New Zealand and in Australia.

Maz McIvor - Introduced our exchange student from Belgium - Amandine Gerlache. Accompanied by first host mum Brenda Linnell. 

Fred Barrett proposed Nayan. Nayan works at Hurricane Computers as a technical manager. Has a rural background. Has been in New Zealand with family for 4 years. Age 26. Welcome Nayan.

Sri Lanka - Graeme spoke about travel to Sri Lanka. After 30 years civil war, country needs a lot of maintenance. History of colonisation. Friendly people. Love cricket. Strong wind and heavy rain so the focus of days was cycling the 80km per day. 32 degrees usually. Military influence noticed in north of country. Graeme normally travels with his own bike seat, but not this time, so he felt it! Every town has an "Anchor" sign and is selling New Zealand product. Visit Lion Rock, the eighth wonder of the world. Tour supported by a cycling guide and a van.

Bhutan - Small country a third the size of the South Island. 600,000 population. Country ranks gross national happiness. Visited Tiger's Nest. Quite a feat of engineering. Saw "solar panel" dogs i.e. they sleep all day and charge up, then bark all night. Saw road worker accommodation made out of 44 gallon drums. Took supplies for Days for Girls.

Columbia - Much Spanish influence. Steep hills and streets. Milk cans carried by donkeys to truck pick up. Coffee plantations on sides of steep hills which must make harvesting a difficult job.

Cambodia - This will be the next trip, including visits to Cambodian Charitable Trust schools. Anyone interested in joining this tour for late May 2020 should contact Graeme.
