Our 2021-22 Board of Directors

Welcome to Club night....especially our guests, Raewyn Dean, Roisin McQuillan, Ann Duncan and Ida van Heuven.

President Presents...

Robert asked for a few moments of silence to honour Lachie Duncan as it was a year since we farewelled him.
He then asked Ida van Heuven to come to the podium. Whilst Ida has been with Budget Advisory since 1980 she has been Treasurer for the Food and Clothing Bank for nearly 25 years. Her wide experience has largely contributed to it's success. This award is to recognise all her many years of service she has freely given to our community. It is particularly special to give this award tonight as it was one of Lachie's wishes that she receive a Paul Harris Fellow.

After dinner Robert said he thought the 75th anniversary celebrations were a success; with great speeches, presentations and a really good open forum. Lots of lovely things were said about our Club. Thanks to all who helped make the day special, our hard working committee and especially our two Emcees, "George" and "James". All the left over cake is going to our working bees, good incentive to turn up.
Thursday 5th Alice and Ava accompanied Robert to the opening of the water feature at Matamata Playcentre. There were also Kiwanis, Hinuera and Matamata Lions in attendance, great to see everyone getting involved. The centre may contact us again soon as a shade cloth will be required for the warmer months.

Guest Speaker  Raewyn Dean - Food bank

Sheryl introduced Raewyn and her fellow colleagues Ann Duncan and Ida van Heuven. In 1999 they had the food and clothing bank which the locals ran through the Budget Advisory Service. Raewyn joined the Food Bank in 2001, she loved playing shopkeeper as a child and this is shown through her passion for this job. Raewyn is involved in interviewing prospective clients who are either self referred or by WINZ or churches.
There are many different jobs to do in the Food Bank. Last year they fed 89 families at Christmas, which involved 110 children. Lockdowns created more demand and issues for all walks of life, care packages for people in isolation were delivered to their door. If they need specific clothing she can buy it or contacts the local Salvation Army, cash donations allow for special dietary requirements to be met. Ida gets the meat processed to meet their needs. If people want to donate they will accept supermarket gift cards and non expired food items and money of course. Most donations are from churches or individuals, which helped raise $10,000 last year. They cover the Matamata, Waharoa, Te Poi and Okoroire areas... but not Tirau.
Peter Thissen thanked Raewyn and presented her with a certificate and a pen.
