Peter welcomed everyone to our club night quiz evening, no guests or visitors to announce. Prior to Peter taking the lectern, Corporal Maz McIvor asked members to stand in silence . in respect to those innocent people killed in Las Vegas. Peter indicated the Tarawera fishing season opening day was fruitful in catching a few Trout. Tarawera fishing
is closed season from June 30th to October 1st, this allows uninterupted spawning and helps general fish condition. Thanked members who helped with Red Nose Cure Kids cupcake baking and street collection. He noted some very swish looking cupcakes in the very many that were baked for this club project, and made thanks to Wade Linnell and his team for a good Rotary effort. Peter was delegated to the industrial subdivision, called in to a workplace to seek donation, an initial response from a person "Rotary guys eh, you are good buggers, I'll get my wallet!". He then drew our attention to the St. John Hall kitchen renovation that is well underway, Then put on his Chain of Office, to perform the formal induction of Derek Farrelly of membership into Rotary International.

Quizz Master David Hulme has certainly done a great job in organising the questions. His research for challenging questions had included a recent recreational endeavour, within an hotel bar facility in Rarotonga. We had wondered where 'slothed' Bears came from. Perhaps we should enquire with a Sleuth of Bears!!!

  • Wade Linnell, reports $1527 raised for Red Nose Cure Kids day, last Friday. Thanked members for the great response for cup cakes, that support with the street collection was as a bit short of help on the day.
  • Walkway sprayed out, that work donated by Matamata Weed Sprayers. John Fernyhough will use his 10 tonne toy, to remove the soil for the actual path width. J Swap will deliver and spread the metal. All we need is a heavy roller, anyone got contacts to borrow one with operator for a few hours?. Members will have to be involved in a working bee's to help with metal placement and then prepare the other ground area and sow the grass seed. Kevin Sing will update us as to date and time for members input.
  • Peter Thissen also doing Concert by the Lake site enhancement. He would like to borrow some waratahs, for a short time. ASP.  He also will need some help towards the end of this month to rake an area to a seed bed tilth, and sow grass seed. Peter will also keep us in the loop for that work to be done.
  • David Hulme reminds members of the Tauranga Te Papa Rotary Club Car Rally, here in Matamata Saturday 28th October. Rally members will be doing , by request 2 hours community work as a group. Ross Bay has that noted.
  • Michelle has arrived in  Pakistan, for formal opening of the Literacy Centre at the  school in Juang; that Rotary Matamata has been a Rotary partner to establish. Friday 6th October. The goss says it is quite dusty at times !!!
  • Guess who is coming to Dinner, Friday 3rd November. Our RFE guests will be participants. More info will be advised. David Hulme 021 328 746. Please advise if you are able to be Dinner Host. It would be great if hosts of our RFE guests are NOT also hosts for GWCD.
  • Dani addressed the meeting on what she has been achieving, like White Island and Hobbiton Movie Set and Tour. Realises that this will is her last school holiday break in Matamata New Zealand, before she returns home, and will be sad when that day arrives.
  • Miranda Thomson raised $602 for Cerebral Palsy charity, by partaking in 'September Steps'. 299446 of them !
  • Lynette Stanley, Foundation Director. Some Centurion subscriptions have lapsed. Direct Debit forms will be emailed to all, so  members can renew and new members subscribe to the tax deductible donation to Rotary Foundation. NZ$100 or US$100 choice of Centurion level. Lynette will follow up.
  • Spud in the Bucket Lachie Duncan the champion for this project. Shunt sheet now open for buckets to purchase. 100 + buckets sold by us members, attracts a reasonable participation at weigh in next year. Good fun community project.

  •       Concert by the Lake . Sunday 4th March 2018.
 
  • A lot of the 'hard yards' with on site development has been done , a few areas of essential upgrading work is required, such as artiste's area. Then of course the important general preparation working bee's. We are all responsible for promoting the Concert by the Lake, from here on in. 800 patronage to our next concert is realistically achievable, if each member can attract 8 adult paying guests x 56 = 400 plus, then our efforts will be well rewarded.
  • New Orient Express , Tivoli cinema theatre, Cambridge Polio Plus Fund Raiser. early November, actual date to be confirmed by Michelle. Good film, good cause.
  • Inventory form 'A' needs to be filled in by members, who may have some Rotary Matamata gear or chattels at home. Contact Mike Farrell for clarification, etcetera.
  • Bridge Club offered their car park for our use for Rotary Meetings at St John hall. So that the road intersection is not congested with parked cars, when no room left at St John car park members use. So please use the offer to park your vehicles at the Bridge Club.
  • Spreading the word of our guest speakers, that would be of interest for people is to be publicly gazetted in social media and other avenues to attend our meetings.
  • Melbourne Cup night, is a no meal refund meeting. Homemade soup and bread buns being provided. All proceeds of that evening going to Polio Plus. End Polio Now. Always good fun, don't forget to dress up or down for the occasion. Also a raffle. Members are asked to bring  a plate of cake slices or the like please.

  •  Spud in the Bucket community involvement project underway for order's. As we know, official planting day this year ,is 23rd October Labour weekend. If each member take three to on sell, 170 bucket sales will be a club record. We get well supported by sponsors, for this annual fund raiser family and business house fun project. Lachie D. has started the shunt sheet. Weighin possibly first week of March 2018 , always a fun evening and of course bragging rights wether the least or heaviest bucket crop. 
  • Official Proclamation. Sonia Scott announced as 'queen' of cup cake baking, with Derek Farrelly being the  Knight of the café tables; with his cup cakes.
