Rotary Matamata, Matamata Lions and Matamata Kiwanis fun multi sport night, was a positive and fun success at the Returned Services Club (RSA).
All three Matamata service clubs efforts not only enhance Matamata District by their efforts, but also humanitarian projects on the world scene.
The camaraderie and smiles during our combined meal, and ' supreme skills or the lack of such ! shown with indoor bowls, Darts and pool, clearly showed that there is respect for each members' service club endeavours. Unfortunately editors camera 'packed a sad !" to capture highlights of the games night. Well worth the effort to participate. Peter acknowledged to the staff of the RSA: A BIG thank you. Games areas were set up, nicely laid out dining tables and a nice meal. Assembly applauded that acknowledgement.
After the Ode to the fallen, and at the conclusion of our shared meal before the games began;flanked by Garry Stanley, Lions: Jim Kyle, Kiwanis: at the top table: President Peter welcomed everyone as hosting service club. He touched on the community work all three Matamata Service clubs achieve and always forward thinking. Lions engage in projects such as slink skins /Fertiliser drive to fund their projects, Kiwanis recycle car and truck batteries that currently fund support to the peoples of Vanuatu. Our community walkway project will recommence shortly from Peria Road to Dawson Street. Our main fundraiser event next February 25th,Concert by the lake with star artiste Bic Runga. That should help fund the walkway project and contribute to the final eradication of Polio from the world.. He asked the assembly please keep Concert by the lake event in mind, and asked if they would put that into their 'to do 2018 calendar'.
A nice touch from Lions, they surprised Garry Stanley with a Lions Chevron 30 year of Service badge presentation.. Kevin Kent explained the arrangements of teams for indoor bowls, darts and 8 ball pool. He pai a Kevin, me Te Reo i runga i te pepa kappa.

As with all professional sport people, looks like some sort of post games ritual celebration!!!
Bridge Club offered their car park for our use for Rotary Meetings at St John hall. So that the road intersection is not congested with parked cars, when no room left at St John car park members use. So please use the offer to park your vehicles at the Bridge Club.
Spreading the word of our guest speakers, that would be of interest for people is to be publicly gazetted in social media and other avenues to attend our meetings.
Fred Barrett has a full programme in place for our nine RFE visitors. This programme will not fall on a Tuesday, so they will not be available for a normal Rotary Club meet. A night at Fred's home, with open invites to members to mix and mingle and hear what is happening Rotary wise in New Mexico and West Texas. More info nearer the time, we have met some great people on Rotary exchanges.
Melbourne Cup night, is a no meal refund meeting. Homemade soup and bread buns being provided. All proceeds of that evening going to Polio Plus. End Polio Now. Always good fun, don't forget to dress up or down for the occasion. Also a raffle. Members are asked to bring a plate of cake slices or the like please.
Starfish has scheduled for 16th September, pruning trees and vegetation removal. As the Resourse Consent, requires a 1.8 m high fence to be erected around the Rawhiti complex. A car park has also to be implemented

Interact tree planting project waiting for a fine weather weekend.( See bottom of this section). Long time rural resident said this wet mild winter in the Matamata District has mirrored exactly the winter of 1956. (Footnote: Soil temp matrix will see maize seed for maize silage planted 26th of this month by an agricultural contractor. Wet soils a hindrance for cultivation in preparation to plant various types of crops).
Concert by the Lake all set to go ahead. Sunday 25th February 2018. Concert organising chair Don Stanley, "that they have engaged Bic Runga as the main star artiste. Obviously now, we all have to prepare the concert venue to support this artiste of the highest calibre".

All committee's will be involved in the budget processes. The Resource Consent allows 2000 members of the public at the venue. But realistic number will be around 700 to 800. Pontoon has to pass an engineers inspection to comply for a fit for purpose certificate. A recommendation will be presented to Directors, as to profit distribution.
A lot of the 'hard yards' with on site development has been done , a few areas of essential upgrading work is required, such as artiste's area. Then of course the important general preparation working bee's. We are all responsible for promoting the Concert by the Lake, from here on in. 800 patronage to our next concert is realistically achievable, if each member can attract 8 adult paying guests x 56 = 400 plus, then our efforts will be well rewarded.
Don't forget to get your ingredients for the cupcakes needed for Friday 29th September ,Red Nose day.
Supervisors are requested, to help Henry Clothier oversee 4000 tree seedlings to be planted on his property by Interact young folk. Members are asked to be supervisors to support and mentor this project. This will be a great fundraiser for these guys. This project will get underway ASP, as weekends obviously at the moment is the option for these college students. Register your name with Henry so to be on the short notice email contact list for this project. The weather forecast has to reasonably fine.

Eight members did not pay $5 to Kevin Kent last Tuesday at the RSA. Plus several members did not turn up to the games night, when indicated they would do so on the shunt sheet.

Slight problem, that disappointed President Peter.
kevin Kent spent his own diligent time, organising Rotary Matamata teams sheet from those indicated on the shunt sheet, to be in sync with Lions and Kiwanis team make ups. Unfortunately several Rotarians were no shows, which gave kevin some extra work to reorganise his teams. which included "on loan" players. Our club confirmed with the RSA, number of Rotarians for dinner. Our club has to commit to that, so therefore no meal refund for last Tuesday plus unless $5 comes into the sport evening meal top up kitty, our club has no option to fund that out of club funds.
Kevin and Peter will have the sport evening shunt sheet next meeting, to see if they can balance that cost.
