President David, welcomed one and all to this meeting at the Matamata Fire and Emergency Station. Acknowledged President of Lions Carol Curtis, who also is Chief Fire Officer Kevin 'Tank' Curtis wife. Introduced himself to our hosts, wearing his Chain of Office and some privilege's that goes with that rank. David made it known he and Kevin played rugby together for Hinuera, Kevin front row forward; David out in the backs 'somewhere'! Kevin's nic name was 'Tank'. David thanked the fire brigade for tonight's hospitality, which Rotary appreciated very much. He explained to the Fire Station personnel and their guests, his weekly Farm Watch report: "you might notice its a bit dry around the district". until the dry spell started to slow things down pasture wise. grass growth season to date was 15% ahead of last year. Pasture management should be , 'clean out your pastures before supplementary feeding'. Third warmest start of the year on record. The conditions are now ripe, for a huge spike of facial eczema spores when  rain comes. Zinz treatment by mouth to bovine is a known solution to flush out the liver of facial exzema spores; which are quite jagged. (an ion molecule of zinc, actually attaches itself to a spore stuck in the liver ducts and makes it 'smooth' enough to be excreted naturally) World milk consumption right now equals actual world milk production. Fonterra 4% ahead this season to date, for processed production. There are no dairy product surplus in the world right now. Finally, we have the opportunity to offer a current yr 12 or yr 13 student an International Out Bound Year in another country, January 2020 to Jan 2021. President David later in the meeting made a Paul Harris Fellowship presentation to Chief Fire Officer Kevin Curtis.
Eric Muckle, introduced CFO Kevin Curtis to Rotarians and guests. Worthy of note was 44 years of volunteer service. Kevin welcomed us, obligatory health and safety especially if there is a call out required and volunteers descend on the station for a emergency call out. Kevin gave us some interesting facts about Matamata Volunteer Fire Brigade. Established 1923 with a centenary celebration planned for 2023. 30 member volunteer team at this Station, New people are given mentoring and support to up skill. Kevin proud to point out the Life members and Gold Star recipients  ( 25 years service recognition) and through a enthusiastic team ethic, many prestigious competition awards; most notably ' Australian Fire Fighters Championship Trophy' . Matamata Fire Brigade, first under the control of Borugh Council, then the New Zealand Fire Commission  and now (FENZ); Fire and Emergency New Zealand. Thanked Matamata Service Clubs for the support they commit to Matamata Volunteer Fire Station and  then invited us to partake in a meal prepared for us by fellow volunteer fire and emergency personnel.
After our meal, President David  announced that a Paul Harris Fellowship was going to be awarded this evening and called upon Rotarian Brian Hunter, Retired Former Matamata Chief Fire Officer to give a curriculum vitae of Chief Fire Officer Kevin Curtis. Brian certainly described commitment, and attributes that benefitted our community worthy of a Paul Harris fellowship. Brian also thanked his wife Carol, for the support she gives Kevin.
President David attaches the Paul Harris Fellow badge, to Kevin's uniform shirt.
