25 February 2025
President Wade and his team for 2024/25
Welcome to a big night with lots to celebrate, both our guest speaker Lynette, and Peter Vossen had new grandbabies, Lynette's second grandson Casey and Peter and Chris's first, Frederick. Other guests attending were Margaret Westlake, Pauline Stuart, John Price, Graham Burnside, Jackie Robinson, Michelle Parker (celebrating her 50th), and Rodrigo Duarte, along with his family.
Members Announcements

Stew advised he now had a full team for the Hobbiton Halfling marathon.
Brian, as Chair for Matamata Rotary Trustees announced Stew was stepping down and Janelle Burnside had accepted to replace him.

Luxury expedition cruise ship with around 200 travellers. Lynette accompanied a friend after her husband was unable to go, they flew to Buenos Aires and cruised from there. There were strict on/off boarding protocols to adhere to when landing.
Above, Victor, Roddy, Melissa and Louise.
For our latest induction, David H was invited up to introduce Rodrigo as he had nominated him. Rodrigo (Roddy)  is an electrical engineer working for TR Industries, whilst wife Louise is a Health & Safety advisor at Inghams. They moved to NZ from Brazil in 2003, and have two beautiful children (both at Aquinas College). Ola amigos! Welcome to Rotary.

PARTING THOUGHT
Winston Churchill quoted "the pessimist sees difficulty in every opportunity, but an optimist sees an opportunity in every difficulty. Thanks to David J.

Lynette Stanley - Antarctica November 2024

Standardly our Rotarians struggle to introduce fellow club members, but Peter V managed to do so with his usual humour. Rather than a presentation per se, Lynette had many stunning images taken on her voyage. Whilst this trip was not planned and may not have been on her bucket list, she was extremely appreciative of the opportunity to visit such a magnificent and awe inspiring seldom traversed part of our planet. Hard to describe the breathtaking vista of your first close-up of a gigantic iceberg, and of course the many varieties of wildlife inhabiting such a wilderness. She could only conclude that if the chance ever arose for anyone they should grab it, as they would not be disappointed. Miranda thanked Lynette for sharing her adventure with us.
David H was an unexpected addition to the evening's entertainment. As many were aware he and Lisette had a fabulous trip over the Christmas/New Year period at the opposite end of the world,
and part of it was spent trying to catch the Northern lights. As you can see from the below photos, they were successful. They covered 3500 nautical miles over 12 1/2 days, cruising in and out of the Arctic circle. Too many amazing experiences to share, but the sledding with the huskies and the brilliant lights will be indelibly etched into their memories.
