Dined adequately!! then President David exclaimed "It as been one hell of a week!'. A standing observance of silence, for all those families affected by the loss of life in Christchurch. David attended a blessing at our Matamata Civic Centre . He noted how well the head girl of Matamata College, spoke to that gathering. "The fellah who perpetrated this act, achieved nothing". "One has to be inspired by the professionalism of our emergency services and Police response to this event.  Absolutely marvellous". President David quoted Sir Winston Churchill--Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen.  Farm Watch: Soil very dry. 3mm rain yesterday. Desperate need of good rain.Pressure is on right now. 1.1kgs/ms/cow/day. 35 day round. feeding 8kgs of supplementary per head per day. Fonterra half year financials are not expected to be good reading. GDT will hopefully comtinue its recent upwards trand. Sombre note for New Zealand farmer co-operatives, with the news that Chinese investment Company Yili, are  looking to invest in Westland Co-Operative Dairy Company. Fonterra shareholders need to be looking really seriously at that scenario. District Conference last weekend was very successful, good turnout from Matamata members. Our guest tonight, Don Mebus, who also spoke at conference ;was very inspirational.
Carolyn and Don Mebus, who was guest speaker. Don thus far, is the most senior office holder Rotarian, to address our Club.
Don L Mebus, joined Rotary in 1974. Served on the various Club office responsibilities. The office of District Governor 5790 opened up the opportunity to Serve Rotary at an even higher level. Director on the Rotary International Board 2006-08. Then  was Aide to 2017-18 RI President Ian Riseley..
YE--ha. with guitar in hand, he sang a ballad ditty about his visit to Rotary Matamata.
This Texan of Arlington USA, not only sang well, but spoke interesting Rotary facts.
Past District 9930 Governor and Matamata Rotarian Leonie Tisch, presented a brief but concise introduction of Don Mebus to our assembly. He immediately concurred with President David Gasquoine on the events in Christchurch. Which has resonated around the world, and on behalf of current Rotary International President Barry Rassin Rotary thoughts are with the people of Christchurch and New Zealand. Don gave an insight to being the Aide to 2017-18 RI President Ian Riseley. ' Being on your toes'  was the challenge not only with office administration and regular interface with President Ian, but representing the Rotary International President when required , around the Rotary World. He did have praise for the professional paid staff associated with Rotary International Headquarters in Evanston, Illinois. Don by power point presentation showed Governance starts here, at our Club level. Club Members - Club President - District Governor - Rotary International Board, that represents the World of Rotary - Rotary Foundation Trustees - Rotary International President - Council on Legislation and Resolution.  Don's duty as Aide to the Rotary International President, started  as soon after the nominee for RI President is announced. He had wonderful support from Rotary staff, as 'where we had been' and 'where we are going'. President Riseley worked hard in his position of President, which equated for his job as being an Aide" got to be ready for anything!". Don relayed the fact , that President Riseley was personally responsible for the planting of 4 (four) million tree's.
Finally, Don Mebus was grateful for the support of his wife, to which they soon celebrate 53 years of marriage. His screen shot contents of the 'First Aide's Bag' , plus also pointed out by Don; the small bottle of 'Jack Daniels'. Immediate past Club President Peter Vossen, thanked Don and Carolyn for their presence, That Don to date, is the highest office holder of Rotary to present to our Club. Peter referred to the Christchurch event as New Zealand "This is not us".  Meeting acclamation for Don and Carolyn Mebus .
This meeting we also had Rotarian Andy Kirkness and his  good lady Louise attend, from Chilliwack, British Columbia, Canada. District 5050. This is attributed to the friendship exchange with 9930. Which has created good friendships from that. Fred and Cec Barrett shared homes in that exchange. They were also warmly welcomed to our assembly.
(Left to Right), Kevin & Trena Kent, Cec & Fred Barrett and Louise & Andy Kirkness.

Changes to Tuesday meetings.
  1. Change meeting time to 5.30pm for 6.00pm dinner.
(Option of having committee meetings at 5.00pm)
Implemented as of 12 March 2019
  1. As a result of the feedback we received from the various committees, we have decided to restructure our meetings slightly.  Effective Tuesday 2nd April, Rotary will be held 4 x Tuesdays per month (for ease of operation and cost) as follows:
1st Tuesday Club and Pizza night – Fellowship & Committee meetings
2nd Tuesday Dinner/Speaker
3rd Tuesday Dinner/Speaker – (Directors Meeting)
4th Tuesday Dinner/Speaker

If there is a 5th Tuesday in the month there would be no Rotary on that night.

  1. Increase dinner cost to $25-00 (to allow for increases after 3 years and also an improved menu).
By only having 3 x dinners to pay for there would be no increase in cost to member.
Club Night – Pizza night – to be paid for by Admin Account at this stage.
V.P. Lynette Stanley.
  1. Need to be looking at a major fundraiser in the next year.  We definitely should be looking at Concert by the Lake again.  Be prepared to pay for a well-known artist. Please give this some thought over the next couple of months.
  2.  Our speaker on March 26 is All Black dietician Kat Darry. Kat will have a great story to tell and this is an evening to invite friends and family to.
                                                  Parting Thought.
"When I say it's you I like, I'm talking about that part of you that knows that life is far more than anything you can ever see or hear or touch. That deep part of you that allows you to stand for those things without which humankind cannot survive. Peace that rises triumphant over war, and love that conquers hate. Do your little bit of good wherever you are. It's those little bits of good put together that will overwhelm the world.".
