President’s announcements: The new schedule for Rotary meals from April has been circulated to members. President David spoke to these changes (I have asked David G to forward these to you so you can print them).

Henry Clothier has had an operation and is recovering. Please keep Henry in your thoughts.
Farm watch: Soil temperature 21 degrees. Growth rate 19 but consuming 45 so a huge deficit. 18-20mm rainfall. Milking 80 per cent of the herd once a day and producing 1.2. Supplementing 16-18kg. Desperately in need of rain. Autumnal season seems to be upon us and hoping for a good autumn.
President David presented Lindsay Tisch (chair of the Pohlen Foundation) with a cheque for $1000. The money was due to Mighty Baker kindly sponsoring our sale of Christmas Mince Pies by not charging us for them for the past three years. Lindsay was very grateful for the donation. “The Pohlen Foundation is the capital funding arm for our hospital. The support we get from the community is amazing and our job is to make sure we have the best of facilities and equipment that we can.”

Important notice from President David.
This was the note that we handed around to members last pm, can you include this please just to reinforce to members.
David G & directors are happy to discuss if anyone needs any explanation.
Cheers DG.
Changes to Tuesday meetings.
  1. Change meeting time to 5.30pm for 6.00pm dinner.
(Option of having committee meetings at 5.00pm)
Implemented as of 12 March 2019
  1. As a result of the feedback we received from the various committees, we have decided to restructure our meetings slightly.  Effective Tuesday 2nd April, Rotary will be held 4 x Tuesdays per month (for ease of operation and cost) as follows:
1st Tuesday Club and Pizza night – Fellowship & Committee meetings
2nd Tuesday Dinner/Speaker
3rd Tuesday Dinner/Speaker – (Directors Meeting)
4th Tuesday Dinner/Speaker

If there is a 5th Tuesday in the month there would be no Rotary on that night.

  1. Increase dinner cost to $25-00 (to allow for increases after 3 years and also an improved menu).
By only having 3 x dinners to pay for there would be no increase in cost to member.
Club Night – Pizza night – to be paid for by Admin Account at this stage.

Guest speaker, Rotarian Thomas Nabb
Founder of the Charity- WaterBoy.

Guest speaker: Thomas Nabb.
Thomas is a Rotarian from Hamilton Central Rotary Club. He is the founder of a charity called The Waterboy. The premise of the charity is that sport is a quintessential right for every New Zealander but unfortunately due to circumstances many young people do not get the opportunity to take part.
The Waterboy assists some of these young people to have a go. “It gives them lots of skills, discipline, self-esteem, respect and purpose allowing families to be bought together,” Thomas said.
The Waterboy identifies these young people and aims to help them help themselves. “When we are selecting the people we select, talent does not come into it. We are creating stronger people not champions,” he said of the philosophy.

  • Murray Wills: Our International Youth Exchange student from Europe will be here in July. Also the Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) application period has been extended by a couple of weeks so if anyone wants to nominate a 20-26 year see Murray. Also the club is still looking for a candidate (16-17 years old) for an outward year-long Youth Exchange next year so again contact Murray if you have potential candidates.

  • Lynette Stanley: Our speaker on March 26 is All Black dietician Kat Darry. Kat will have a great story to tell and this is an evening to invite friends and family to. Also good personal news for Lynette as her son Jake popped the question to Jamie McDell over the weekend and they are now engaged. Jamie is a Paul Harris Fellow from our club following her incredible support of Concert by the Lake and we are delighted for Jake, Jamie and their families.

  • Miranda Thomson: Her daughter Ruby has been accepted to do the Rotary Australia New Zealand Matched Twin programme. Their Australian matched student will be in New Zealand on April 6 for three months, then Ruby heads to Australia for three months. We wish Ruby all the best. For those going to conference, Ruby is carrying a flag in during the flag ceremony so we all need to cheer loudly!

  • Robert Stuart: Robert and President David recently attended Te Poi School to present them with a cheque for $1000 towards resurfacing their courts. They were really well received.

  • Leonie Tisch:  Next week’s speaker is past Rotary International Director Don Melbus, who is the Rotary International President’s representative to our District 9930 conference this weekend.

  • David Gasquoine: Please remember the Crabb family in this very tragic week for them.

Who inspired Me. -- Merv King
Merv said he was a big reader and two authors he read when he was young made a big impact – St Matthew’s account of the Sermon on the Mount and a book by Dale Carnege. Both made absolute sense to him. In terms of inspiring people, Jack Stanley was right up there. It was Jack that suggested to Merv he start his own business and the rest is history. Also his wife Janet has inspired him countlessly over their 59 years of marriage. “I have always believed that everyone in this world can teach me something whatever it may be. I am still happily being inspired and taught things.”

V.P. Lynette Stanley.
  1. Need to be looking at a major fundraiser in the next year.  We definitely should be looking at Concert by the Lake again.  Be prepared to pay for a well-known artist. Please give this some thought over the next couple of months.
