Hi everyone.
Well it has certainly been a bit wet underfoot these last few days and looks like we may have a little bit more to come. I got to enjoy the Pohlen Foundation Trust Real Homes and Garden tour yesterday in the rain and I take my hat off to all who opened their homes to have all of these strangers wandering through. There are some very talented people out there when it comes to designing and decorating their homes. If you missed it, try to get along to the next one when they have it. Well worth the while.
President Jane started by addressing the results of the Regional Council elections. She also pointed out that District 9930 was the only district in which all of the clubs completed the survey.
Inaugural Regional Council Election Results
Clubs throughout Zone 8 have had their say, and the results of the first Zone 8 Regional Council election are now in.
Below are the candidates who clubs have chosen to lead our Zone from 1 January 2024:

The role of Portfolio Lead: Diversity, Equity and Inclusion did not receive any eligible applications. A suitable candidate for the role will be selected once the Regional Council is in place.
Jane started off so well, but then had to enlist the help of her trusty sidekick Krishna Narayanasami to help with the pronunciation of some of the names. Between them they did a great job.

So this week was the 1st part of our AGM comprising of the passing of previous minutes, matters arising and the announcement of the incoming directors.
Interestingly, before the meeting, incoming President Wade Linnell, was seen down on one knee and making a proposal to a stunned Roisin McQuillon.
What's going on here then???
So the incoming directors for next year are as follows:

Lynette Stanley had the opportunity to divulge who she thought the mystery Rotarian was and she admitted that this was no easy task. Her clues were as follows:
1) I once sang in a choir for one of the world's most famous people.
2) I received an award from the Governor General.
3) I once had a rock thrown through my bedroom window in a case of mistaken identity.
So for the first clue, Lynette thought long and hard about who this could possible as we have a few in the club with some very good voices, Merv King, Murray Wills, Lynne Dobbe, Michelle Tanner, but she really got stuck on who the famous person might have been.
For the second clue, Lynette started trolling through Facebook and Googling Governor General Awards and thought of Brian Hunter or Leonie Tisch, but nothing was marrying up.
The 3rd clue about having a rock thrown through the window, could have just about been anyone, although one would assume it was someone living in town.
In the end, Lynette made the bold call of naming Graham Motion. Unfortunately, she was wrong and had to pay a fine. David Hulme then asked the real mystery Rotarian to stand up....but no one did.
Because David was the mystery Rotarian and he was already standing.
He then justified with an explanation.
1) The person he sang for was Pope John Paul the 2nd, as part of a school choir at the Auckland Domain around 1982.... before David's voice broke 😊
2) He received an award from the Governor General when he was in Boys Brigade
3) The Rock through the window was when he was housesitting for someone. Mistaken Identity.
