Vice President Wade Linnell ran the meeting last Tuesday in the absence of President Jane Belton as she was away in Gore for work.
There were a few members announcement...
Secretary Beth Taylor read out a letter from Walton School BOT thanking us for our contribution towards helping them to raise enough funds to purchase a new school bus, which they are now in the process of doing.
Mike Farrell thanked all who had contributed to the Food Bank with a special thank you from Ida van Heuven, the Food Bank treasurer, for our massive contribution of $7050.00 which will be a HUGE help with the increased demand at this time of year.
Maz McIvor thanked those who helped put the Christmas float together and those participated on the day. A lot of fun had by all and the float looked very impressive.

Our speaker for this evening was Dean McDonnell
Dean grew up on the Tairei Plains. He went to the Dunedin College of Education and then went to Bible School in Auckland, His philosophy in life was that he always wanted to make a difference for the greater good. Dean was the Principal of Hinuera Primary School for 22 1/2 years before retiring from teaching and becoming the Pastor at the Matamata Bible Church.
The year before coming to Hinuera, Dean and his wife Anita were milking cows on a town supply farm, so milking all year round. As they were both teachers, when the position came up at Hinuera, they applied for it as they new that it would give them a good opportunity to do more youth work which they both loved and they have loved being here. Dean said that he has always known about Rotary and the fantastic work that we do in the community and world wide.
Dean delivered a lovely Christmas message and shared with us what Christmas meant to him. He said that Christmas is a time of joy and reflection. A time to seek forgiveness and to forgive. "For God so loved the world, he gave his only son"
Dean and his wife Anita were thanked by Robbie Pearson.
