Notice about world President visit

David Hulme gave advanced notice that Rotary International President Gordon McInally from Scotland will be visiting District 9930 for two days at the beginning of June. Matamata has been chosen to host Gordon for approximately 1 ½ hours on Wednesday June 5 – further information will follow but this is likely to be a morning tea and official opening of the additions at the Dog Park in Peria Road. There will also be an official District function in Hamilton at 5pm on Thursday June 6 which is strictly limited to 200 people. An official invite will come out next week for this and if you want to attend, you should register as soon as you are able to. This is the first time a sitting Rotary International President has visited our District so this is a momentous occasion and one which you are encouraged to take part in.

  • From the Rotary Foundation Committee - some more food for thought
  •   InterPlast
Interplast is a small charitable organisation started by Rotary in 1983 through a partnership with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.  Rotary continues to be crucial in both governance and support from clubs and Districts throughout Australia and New Zealand.
The Constitution designates Rotary members of the Company, the Board of Directors and the Rotarian Committee of 9 Past District Governors.
Interplast sends fully qualified Australian and New Zealand volunteer plastic and reconstructive surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses and allied health professionals to the Asia Pacific region to provide free surgical treatment for patients who would otherwise not be able to afford access to such services.

The lucky person to try and guess the Mystery Rotarian last week was John Fernyhough.

Clues for the mystery Rotarian, were as follows –

1/ I travelled with the champion Morrinsville Polo team. My job was to cool down a horse after a chukha and warm up a horse for the next one.
2/ I drove a load of sheep to the Auckland Freezing Works when I was 13.
3/ I have the best annual bowling average in the 100 year history of cricket in Matamata.
Answer: (guessed correctly by John Fernyhough) was Merv King.

The lucky person to try and guess the Mystery Rotarian this week is Mike Steiner.

Clues for the mystery Rotarian, are as follows –

1/ I once inadvertently drove a car at 217km per hour on a public road
2/ My father was aide-de-camp to a New Zealand Governor General
3/ Our family once owned a house cow named Daisy

Good luck with these clues Mike. Sounds pretty tricky to me.
