Michelle welcomed our club guests Stewart and Raewyn Broomhall, their daughter Amy and son in law Nathan. Stewart and Raewyn well known as the proprietors of Pippins, long time supporters of Rotary Matamata. Amy the creative florist, that Kevin Sing and before him Les Greenwell call upon for that special anniversary presentation to club members. Candice , younger sibling to brother Tyrone M. also added that Welsh South African presence. What is Rotary? as Michelle quizzed members on the 100 years of Rotary Foundation. The founder Arch C. Klumph started such with us$ 26.50c .... the actual amount of money he had on him at that time, with an endowment scheme that developed into Rotary Foundation. Starfish open day. although quite chilly on the day achieved its purpose. Thank You for all club members who helped, Starfish thanked Rotary Matamata very much for such support. Michelle updated us on our proposed project partnership with Rotary clubs in USA and India. It is a good sign of goodwill to support a literacy centre in the school of Jhang, Pakistan. Club District grant application has been lodged , so to be part of that project. Two laptops have been delivered to John Buchanan, for his good work in the pacific.
History of The Rotary Foundation. At the 1917 convention outgoing Rotary President Arch Klumph pictured above ,proposed to set up an endowment “for the purpose of doing good in the world.” In 1928, it was renamed The Rotary Foundation, and it became a distinct entity within Rotary International.
Growth of the Foundation In 1929, the Foundation made its first gift of $500 to the International Society for Crippled Children. When Rotary founder Paul Harris died in 1947, contributions began pouring in to Rotary International, and the Paul Harris Memorial Fund was created to build the Foundation.

As guest speaker, Jan described the journey to date of the John & Jan McIntyre ice cream business, Kowhai Creamery. We heard the entrepreneurial progress from sharemilkers to blueberry growing that eventually led into their ice cream enterprise. Jan explained her ice cream is made of Jersey Breed dairy cows wholemilk, so the ice cream product is best described as a Italian type Gelato of 6 to 7% fat, as compared to ordinary ice cream at 10 to 11% fat which is also more aerated than her product. With effort comes reward, working dawn to dusk with her small manufacturing plant to meet the ever growing demand for her various flavoured ice cream products. Their business has now invested in larger plant to meet the growth of demand and additional sale outlets, but ensuring they become a sustainable and environmental aware entity. They support the codes of compliance that the business is required to meet. Jan several times acknowledged the support of younger folk they have engaged to support their retail, signwriting, PR Branding and social media requirements. A few celebs have called in to their ice cream mobile kiosk at Waharoa, even nicer when they pass on positive promotion of their product. Same analogy as to many business types.......... don't have to be big to be the best, two silver awards for being overall 2nd out of 37 at the national ice cream awards at the Crown Plaza recently is testimony to that. A very significant award in their type of business.They started their ice cream business in 2015, so in reality their business has an expediential growth curve that is still within the known demands of their product range. Club members appreciated the gesture of sampling Kowhai Creamery product after the meeting.

Amy was presented by michelle, a club appreciation for her florist skills support for Rotary Matamata. Kevin S. quite happy about that as well.
I have captured on my Ipad, a very consistent theme of meeting camaraderie at meetings. No wonder our club achieves so much.
This was Michelle's sixth meeting as club president.

Krishna Narayanasami, Director Public Image Committee seems very pleased with the new signage, for public direction.
Krishna also reminds members to talk to fellow members of our community,so to put forward names of 18 to 26 years of age for selection consideration reference the J R McKenzie Trust Outward Bound Course opportunity.
President Michelle would like us to try a new method of recruitment that has worked well for other clubs. Essentially it will involve groups of four lead by someone from the Membership Committee working as a team to recruit new members.

Fred Barrett presented his Positive Rotary Moment, which was his participation in the Rotary Friendship Exchange to DISTRICT 5050. That district is unique as it's boundary takes in the United States of America and Canada. Fred made note that one of his hosts birth place of origin was Turanga-O-Moana. The experience and the extra mile Rotarians provide for their guests is very memorable.

Stew appreciates advance notice by members who will be missing a few meetings, helps him with club night duties roster. Otherwise it is incumbent on members to arrange a proxy person if you have a roster club night duty gazetted.
Four for One initiative put in place. Club members allocated to a team, with a team leader. The desired outcome is that every team bring one new person to join our club this Rotary term.
Lynette Stanley gave an update on where Matt Stanley was at with his participation in the Olympics. And Don not happy one bit, being unable to go for his constitutional morning swim while briefly in Braemar.
Condolence to Peter Thissen, his younger brother passed away this week.

Archiving this Rotary term year. You will notice I take some video clip at each Rotary meeting and I would say at other club involvements. I do not know what will be required at next club president change over, but there has been some sort of photo/video montage on the screen. So just in case, I will be archiving some pictures and video in case. Quite rightly, a club member questioned my taking pictures of members. MY archive is readily available for members perusal. Please let your director of your committee know or myself if anyone is not happy me archiving past club activities. Apart from a few deliberate humour photos that create un offensive in my opinion addition to the bulletin, the archive video is not staged, but au naturale. I draw your attention to the script under Michelle's photo in this bulletin , even prior starts to meetings show Rotarians very engaged with their fellow peer's. One bulletin, I wrote that the sergeant had to bring the meeting to order because of the social ambience. Again, what a great club to belong to in my opinion.
Wine is health, beer gives you strength, water for bacteria so drink more wine than beer!
