Evening everybody, As President David tries to compete with cream puffs as our dinner dessert. So lets get underway, but as in farm animal husbandry right now, winter is to eat so to put on weight! Welcome to Rotary tonight, we have no other guests or visitors except our guest speaker, that Peter Vossen will introduce later. I think our Rotary Team did reasonably well at the Westpac Rescue Helicopter fund raiser quiz night. Started to get a bit expensive to buy the answers though!!! We deserved in my reckoning, a bronze medal. Farm Watch: Management is on stock health and getting them on the way to be at a reasonable body condition at calving. NAIT. National Animal Identification & Trace.
Mycoplasma bovis a Bacteria, is in the news as most of you know. Mycoplasma bovis is one of 126 species of genus Mycoplasma. It is the smallest living cell and anaerobic in nature. It does not contain any cell wall, and is therefore resistant to penicillin and other beta lactam antibiotics. Mycoplasma bovis mainly affects cattle and has little effect on other production animals. It has a devastating affect on being a productive animal, but also has quashed years of hard work of farming families to produce a high genetic productive herd, that had to be disposed of the try and halt the bacteria spread. NAIT, is an important tool to restrict infected cattle movements. Which is enacted out by Ministry of Primary Industries. There is a few apparent failing in the process, which is being worked on. Mycoplasma bovis is not Zoonotic, meaning it cannot be spread to human, and is not a food safety risk. It is found in every country of the world except Norway. Tatuanui Co Operative has put out an indicative milk price to their suppliers 2019-2020 season of $8 kg/ms.
