Michelle welcomed everyone to our club assembly, especially our guests and visitors. After last weeks' meeting, she had discussion with St John representatives to address our concerns with acoustics and minimal ability to darken the room when visual presentations are made. This meeting was very amicable and St John very keen to address these issues ASP. Also there is also going to be some remodelling of the kitchen. Rotary Matamata will commit to utilising their building for one calendar year, if our issues of concern are addressed. Michelle put around the very last few raffle tickets on behalf of Rotary Waikato Sunrise. Proceeds to Waikato Hospice. Then a brief visual presentation on our joint Rotary Project in Juang, Pakistan. 85% of the school rooms completed. A much needed education upgrade in a very challenged socio economic community. Michelle has taken on board that we also concentrate a bit more on off shore Rotary projects, to the Pacific islands.
Rotary Ladner, Delta, BC Canada Rotary Friendship Exchange hosted visitors, pictured with Rotary Matamata President Michelle Tanner. L to R, Chris Offer, Michelle, Sandra O'Keefe and Penny Offer. They presented a very good picture of being very active in Rotary. Chris and Penny both being previous District Governor's. Sandra very involved with her Club on the social aspects, such as GWICFD ( Guess who is coming for dinner). All of them have been involved with RI projects, in countries that have challenges which Rotary can assist for better outcomes. Along with their Rotary Ladner and District Zones, like us champion 'End Polio Now' with proactive involvements. It is so good for everyone to see the results of the work and effort Rotarians throughout the world that have collectively focussed their goodwill and energy to eradicate this debilitating disease, that really does add value to less fortunate people of the world. This clearly shows what a unique organisation, Rotary actually is. Thanks to Paul Harris and Arch C. Klumph.

PRM Brian Hunter. Joined Rotary in 1985 and was immediately inspired when attending a breakfast meeting hosted by Merv King. The meeting topic was the plan, vision and dream of Rotary world wide, to eradicate Polio. From that saw over 30 years of Rotary world wide effort that has seen Polio go from an endemic disease of 125 countries, to less than 40 in 2 countries. That has been his WOW factor as a Rotarian. The strong support both he and Sandra give to 'End Polio Now' has seen, as at this point in time Polio almost gone.
Reminderat formal Rotary meetings, One club member will be assigned to meet and greet Daniella ,and dine at the same table and introduce members on that table.
School Chums!!! meet up again. With Don Stanley (left)is Edward Wheadon, visiting from his home in Calgary, Canada. Known by Don and Barry McKey as 'Ernie' in their school days in Matamata. Edward followed his career as a structural Engineer, which took him away from his home town of Matamata. Bother David is of course a long time member of our Club.
Included in their presentation to our meeting assembly, Chris and Penny Offer and Sandra O'Keefe, the geographical location of Ladner, topography, seasonal weather expectations, population distribution. Greenhouses and Hydroponics are a local food producing industry, along with Cranberries grown outside. The harvesting of the latter quite unique, flood the growing area; berries then float to be scooped up. Also timber is all government owned, where in NZ, all private enterprise. Impressed us with their Canadian Government ,also contributing a significant amount to Rotary for Polio eradication purposes. They also have an Interact Club. A recent big project was to secure used but not abused hospital equipment , such as mechanical beds and saline drip stands to take to a country in need of such equipment. A worthy social event in support of people with challenges in life, Rotary Ladner puts on a winter Xmas party, and a summer BBQ. They also informed us that Rotary Ladner celebrates its 60th birthday. Chris presented Michelle I of 3 pin badges while on their exchange visit to New Zealand, portraying the motif of the Rotary Ladner milestone. Their time with us was brief, but we all appreciated the fellowship opportunities in being a Rotarian endears.
Secretary David Johnson:-, letter of thanks from Food Bank for the donated potatoes from our Spud in the Bucket annual project. Calendar Girls show after 4th April meeting, 28 confirmed to go. Pay David J. asp please. $25 pp., Musical Theatre also advance notice , a show by 6 to 14 years called Dracula Rock Show. Monday May 8th. More info I am sure nearer the time.
Kiwanis Charity Golf Tournament This Friday 24th.
Krishna requires some further volunteers to distribute dog safety books, to schools in our district. Please contact Krishna if you able to support this safety project.
David Hulme had a brief meeting after Rotary, to discuss District Conference dress theme with attendees. Conference theme is 'Its a Kind Of Magic" - Abracadabra !!!!
A RYLA nominee was announced to members. Elisabeth Brown.
Dani was not at our Rotary meeting this week.. She was attending a Matamata College sports camp. There is a serious part to this camp, as it contributes good qualifying support to her academic year achievements. Rotary members do observe Daniella as very conscientious, plus her English language is certainly becoming more fluent.
Dani no estaba en nuestra reunión de Rotary esta semana. Asistió a un campamento deportivo de Matamata College. Hay una parte seria en este campamento, ya que aporta un buen apoyo calificador a sus logros del año académico. Los miembros rotarios observan a Daniella como muy concienzuda, además de que su lengua inglesa es cada vez más fluida.
Positive Rotary Moment. Phew!! the Rotary Year 2/3rds through. The editor also produces the club duty roster, Margaret and Stew go to a few parts of the world for 6 weeks from 24th May. I hope to have the duty plan all set till change over, to make things easier for the stand in bulletin editor ( Which I have to find ) while I cannot finish the Rotary Year. It was noted that Rotary Ladner have five (5) ex District Governors in their Club. Penny Offer quipped , "so no shortage of advice ! but did urge members to support Leonie Tisch when District Governor 9930".
