We have had an active first half of my term of office. Our Club recently supported Te Poi School to help resurface an outside games area, Dr Fraser Macdonald (Waikato University Anthropology Programme) implementation of a healthy water supply to the village of Sambate, in the Tekin Valley, Oksapmin area of Papua New Guinea. Access is only by air. Kaimai Walking Group rest seating on their network of community walking tracks. Important to eat out pastures before supplementary feed is fed out, cull empty cows. 80% of what has happened this dairy season ,has happened. So focus is now manage the remaining 12 weeks or so of this season to set up the winter and next season. Great to farm in 'Gods Own", although right now 400mls of rain that Queensland is experiencing , would be nice.

Jeff is a qualified psychologist and Rachael a qualified teacher. A husband and wife team that decided to get a lot out of life. So their chosen bucket list included, Travelling, cycling, tasting sensations of different cuisines and give back to communities by volunteer work. So they had various stints and unique experiences in Samoa,Cambodia, Vietnam, Myramar , Tanzania and a memorable opportunity in Timor Leste . Some of their adventures included high altitude hiking, ice climbing in the Himalayas. Again while in that region, their respective skills were volunteered to be a part of Ed Hillarys' world renowned continue legacy work and further achievements in Nepal. Rachael was very involved in school literacy programmes.While in Kathmandu, severe double violent earthquakes and associated aftershocks happened while they were there. Although frightening and sometimes distressing, Jeff and Rachael got involved in helping co ordinate recovery and Rachael helped some schools even open air ones function. Not all Nepalese children have the opportunity at the moment ,to access education. What stood out in the earthquakes devastation, was buildings constructed by Ed Hillary and his brother apart of cladding shaken off; the building frames stayed in situ. Jeff was very impressed how quickly the Chinese and Indian military mobilised, to be first respondents to a natural disaster, even though things were politically strained between India and Nepal. Plus they acknowledged how prominent Rotary was in humanitarian support to the people of Timor Leste.in a time of need. Plus the only ANZAC deployment of military personnel, when they were there. Jane Belton introduced our guest speakers, as there is a family connection and witnessed the marriage of our honeymooner's, Last Saturday. John Fernyhough thanked Jeff and Rachael including the nice comments of observed Rotary humanitarian endeavours.

Applications now open for 20 to 26 year olds, for the next course April 13th to 18th.Participants have the opportunity to grow and develop their leadership networks through being part of a cohort of emerging leaders, expanding their network of Rotarian contacts and meeting a range of prominent local leaders. Who has Inspired me: Alice Clothier.
The thing that inspires me is Rotary. I get a lot of funny looks when I tell people that I am in Rotary. As I don't fit the perceived mould, however Rotary inspires me daily. It inspires me to be kind, to offer what I can to help people and to look at situations differently. Every chance I get, I promote Rotary and what it can do for an individual. Without my Rotary Youth Exchange opportunity, I wouldn't be the person I am today, and that inspires me to help others in the same way.
