President Peter after the excitement and drama of the Melbourne Cup, welcomed Assistant Governor Area 3 Bill Robinson, Suzanne Lawes and son Ben. Acknowledged member Christine Wilson, now 2 months into being a first time Mum. Briefly did history of the Melbourne Cup.1861 first ran, The Bard was the winner of a Gold Watch.1865 the Cup Trophy first awarded. Peter acknowledged he had a few horses in his time, saw horses!! forty plus of them. Sound condition, economic to run, useful and served him well! Thanked Fred Barrett for the successful RFE programme, plus David Hulme who drove the van during their stay. Guess who is Coming to Dinner also a socialising winner, big thank you to dinner hosts. A jingle to the lyrics of 'When the Saints' of the four way test, was recited by Peter and Jane Belton. Which was an outcome of one of the dinner groups.

Rotary Tauranga Te Papa was the participating car rally Club, that helped tremendously at the StarFish working bee Saturday October 28th.
Well, we did have some people really dress for the occasion. All sweepstakes were allotted a few days earlier. Due to number of participants, three sweepstake lists were required. Ross Bay set up the communication technology for live screening of the race, with help to do so from lynette Stanley. David Hulme gave some latest horse and jockey info up to race got under way. Which was a close race for most of the field, alas with the last 800 metres blanked off the screen , by Stew Wadey !!!!! so the lap top screen became centre of attention. The screen projector came back up for all the replays .phew!!! As with any major race meeting, winners and losers and best dressed punter categories.

Editor took above photo's Monday 6th Nov. A Walkway working bee last Wednesday further advanced the Walkway Project from Peria Road, to Dawson Street. Grass has struck either side of the new path. The walkway has already being used by the general public. Well done Team, and some kudos in my opinion for MPDC Kaimai Valley Services staff for a nicely mown grass condition on Rotary Grove.
Concert by the Lake venue. Peter Thissen very pleased with the working bee last Monday, another working bee to finish terraces off for grass sowing, Small load of top soil been delivered to be raked. Watch out for email notice for this shortly. He was not that happy with neighbours yearlings checking out the terraces for free!!
The Rotary Friendship Exchange tour party, exchanged banners, their five Club/District Banners David Hulme formally presented to President Peter Vossen.

A request to aid meeting car parking, keep clear of the gap in the wall that gives access to the grass beside St John, so we can use the grass to park on if needed, now the ground conditions are better.

Viewing areas from stage, L to R elevated viewing, lower viewing and the corporate viewing terraces, advanced by Peter's efforts and working bee last Monday afternoon..
View from the corporate terraces. Patrons should be quite happy concert day, with the exclusive view of the stage. Bit of informal discussion on possibly a name for each terrace.
Organising Committee may wish to identify each terrace by a name. Suggestion Such as :-

Bridge Club car park has been made available for our use for Rotary Meetings at St John hall. Rationale is the road intersection is not congested with parked cars, when no room left at St John car park for members use. So please keep in mind their offer to park your vehicles at the Bridge Club.

I am smiling , because I know the power of smiling. I walk down the street and smile at people and they smile back. Research has shown that smiling stimulates our brain reward mechanism, in a way eating chocolate cannot match. We enjoy the company of children who average 400 smiles a day. Adults average only twenty smiles a day! Grinners are winners and winners are grinners. ( abridged)

Follow the travels of the gladiators as they set about conquering, falling in love and generally causing mayhem. Be enamored by the beautiful temple maidens, fall in love with Venus and chuckle at cupid as his arrows go astray. Zany characters abound as we rake a romp through Rome Sweet Rome.
