Michelle opened the meeting with the sad acknowledgement to the passing of the Venerable Archdeacon Bruce Dale. Don Stanley spoke on Bruce's faithful service to his Church, education, community service and his involvement in Rotary. Members will have received President Michelle's email, as to Rotarians being most welcome by Bruce's sister to be part of the funeral congregation this Saturday, All Saints Church Matamata.

John Bucanhan, Computers into the Pacific Island Nations.
John Bucanhan, long time Rotarian spoke on his endeavours of getting recycled fit for purpose computers into Pacific Island schools, most recent initiatives have been in Vanuatu. He presented some good visual aspects of his and friends support of education in challenging situations. He noted that mobile phones are everywhere and cell towers are plentiful. Which is a concern to observers, as young people believe there is a better life out of their village. Only to end up in slum areas of Port Vila and no employment opportunities. It did not go un noticed that mobile call costs are very cheap, as compared to New Zealand mobile phone usage cost. He asked for any unused lap tops etcetera , he wipes everything off the hard drive in the revamping of these recycled computers. Which means no personal information is divulged. PLUS he quoted some great cost concessions if the Charitable Status of Rotary is used for up to date programmes.

Lisete Hulme was graciously acknowledged by Ross Bay, for 'Days for Girls' kits that were very well received in Ghana. Ross will be taking some more kits to Kenya prepared by Lisete and her team.
Harry Russell PRM, was hosting International Rotarians that attended the 1992 Melbourne world Rotary Conference, by invitation as President of Rotary Matamata to be hosted in Matamata on their way back to their respective countries.

Sergeant Glenda did her duty, the highlight was Sheryl's daughter obviously did not conform to the profile of a drug runner, as she was asked to assist NZ Customs in drug canine training as she was going through the port of entry process at Auckland Airport. Poor canine failed initially to sniff her out , so the dog handler had to direct the student canine!!!!
