Sergeant Nicole gave a pop quiz on Breast Cancer in NZ. Suffice to say the statistics are high and although we were dressed in pink to support - we were not fundraising as a Club, but she encouraged members to donate directly.
Stew insisted the Bulletin Editor had to be in this edition. Lads struggled more with pink attire this week than previous blue but the ladies were supreme. World Polio day 24th October, so on 22nd we will be wearing PURPLE!
President Presents...
Wade welcomed guests and wives Chris Vossen and Gillian Hughes. We were very fortunate to have two new members inducted: firstly Steve Hughes, introduced by his neighbour Peter V. Steve and Gillian (hard G) are from the UK, been married for nigh on 50 years with four children. He has taught in NZ and had Sam Cane (All Black) as a student. Our second, Dr Angela Sharples, was introduced by Michelle. Angela has such an impressive background that she will be a guest speaker. Angela is currently Principal of Matamata College and although she lives in Rotorua with her husband and children, she wants to be a part of this community. Congratulations to our two fabulous new members!

Stew advised the Christmas dinner is on the 10th December at the Fire station. More details to come.
Mike F reminded of our annual Foodbank drive to raise funds; donations can be made directly to the Charitable account - with names and what it is for as references.
Michelle updated the Club on the Interact project, they are wanting to create a study garden. On their behalf we have successfully applied for a $3000 District grant, which the Club must match. They have fundraised $2000 and the Council have matched this too, bringing the total to $10,000.
David H advised the Wisconsin visitors agenda for November, but sadly they got the dates wrong and will be leaving NZ the day they were due to visit. Everything has now been cancelled. Thanks to David and Leonie for their many hours spent arranging this, you have our sympathies.

Totara Springs Christian Camp
President Wade introduced our guest speakers David Lawson (left) and Brian Bonar from Totara Springs. A young Wade applied for a job there a few years ago, when our very own Ross Bay was in charge. Many of our members have had some contact with the camp in some form or another. The initial conception of having a Christian camp started in Te Aroha in 1940, as it grew in size and popularity it moved around till finally settling at Totara Springs with it's first Easter camp in 1967. They currently can accommodate 427 people, but the facilities are too small, ageing, and not up to today's specs. The goal is then to build a new multi-wing cabin block with new ablution facilities and separate parent/teacher rooms with en-suites. The overall cost for all to be completed is $7.5m, however, the construction will be done in stages as and when they can raise the funds. The camp has so much to offer youth with a multitude of activities, from archery to orienteering, rockclimbing to kayaking and everything in between.
