Peter welcomed everyone, especially Fraser Cameron of Opotiki Rotary Club: our honourary member Charmaine Donaldson QSM,PHF and guest speaker Elizabeth Wright. Peter suggests an exciting week ahead, referring to the upcoming general election this Saturday, as media information indicates a close call as to an outcome. "Thats as far as I can say", as Rotary is A political. Mentioned the successful games evening last week inviolving our Club, Lions and Kiwanis. Pround to announce Rotary Matamata teams, 1st 2nd 3rd 4th and last. Quick to point out Miranda T. was captain of that team, but prior the the evening asked could she provide the lollypops for the last team. For they should 'suck up' that outcome, so as we now know got 'sucked' into that one!!! Peter in finishing, read out from RDU the new RI President-Elect if no challenging candidates have been suggested.Barry Rassin, of Rotary Club of East Nassau,New Providence,Bahamas. His aims are to strengthen our public image and use digital tools to maximise Rotary's reach. A Rotarian since 1980, his Curriculum Vitae impressive to support that RI President role. Plus brought our attention to page 15 of Rotary Down Under, featuring Michelle Tanner for recognition of her endeavours to grow our membership.
No doubting our guest speakers' Rotarian passion for being District 9930 Champion for Interplast. Elizabeth Wright, Rotary Te Awamutu.
Formally introduced to our meeting by Jane Belton, Elizabeth explained that
Interplast is a small charitable organisation started by Rotary in 1983 through a partnership with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. Rotary continues to be crucial in both governance and support from clubs and Districts throughout Australia and New Zealand.The Constitution designates Rotary members of the Company, the Board of Directors and the Rotarian Committee of 9 Past District Governors.
Interplast sends fully qualified Australian and New Zealand volunteer plastic and reconstructive surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses and allied health professionals to the Asia Pacific region to provide free surgical treatment for patients who would otherwise not be able to afford access to such services.Treatment is aimed at providing function and mobility for conditions such as cleft lip and palate, tumours and burns scar contractures. Interplast also focus heavily on facilitating medical training and mentoring for in-country medical personnel through building capacity and supporting local health services in direct response to in-country requests. Elizabeth recently joined two surgeons, two anaesthetists, two nurses ,ALL volunteers to Lautoka,Fiji. In that week, nearly 40 operations, some up to 4 hours duration. Elizabeth included visual presentation that showed severe infliction to young persons bodies, and the success of post operative results for these young people. On arrival, the team have to make priority medical decisions for surgery of the many patients that are presented to them. That is a very difficult time for these Interplast volunteers. Local Rotary Clubs help transport the team and their >300kgs of gear each trip, plus help transport patients from the outlying islands of Fiji. Although these highly skilled good folk, volunteer their time and effort. There are still costs incurred, to support the success of what Interplast achieves. Interplast is active
in the Asia / pacific region. Mongolia to our west. through to the Pacific Islands NE of NZ.
A fundamental component of all our activities is to leave a legacy through strengthening, improving and expanding the abilities of our neighbours’ medical staff. The number of programs delivered has grown to over 70 a year. Elizabeth, who will be presenting to all Clubs in District 9930 that they consider a pledge of $1000, to support Rotary's involvement in Interplast. Alice Clothier in thanking Elizabeth for her presentation, and being a new member of Rotary Matamata and manifestly unaware of this good work; to which our club should support.

Bridge Club offered their car park for our use for Rotary Meetings at St John hall. So that the road intersection is not congested with parked cars, when no room left at St John car park members use. So please use the offer to park your vehicles at the Bridge Club.
Spreading the word of our guest speakers, that would be of interest for people is to be publicly gazetted in social media and other avenues to attend our meetings.
Fred Barrett has a full programme in place for our nine RFE visitors. A full programme schedule will be in our bulletin two weeks before they arrive, so members can make arrangements to be involved with the activities organised for our guest visitors. Fred asks if a standby host ( if required)for a retired lady Dentist, would come forward. There is a possibility that current arrangement host may not be back in the country in time. 2nd 3rd 4th November.
Melbourne Cup night, is a no meal refund meeting. Homemade soup and bread buns being provided. All proceeds of that evening going to Polio Plus. End Polio Now. Always good fun, don't forget to dress up or down for the occasion. Also a raffle. Members are asked to bring a plate of cake slices or the like please.
Rome Sweet Rome. Musical Theatre production end of November. Keep that in mind. Thespian Ross Bay will keep us up to date with that.

Concert by the Lake . Sunday 25th February 2018.
A lot of the 'hard yards' with on site development has been done , a few areas of essential upgrading work is required, such as artiste's area. Then of course the important general preparation working bee's. We are all responsible for promoting the Concert by the Lake, from here on in. 800 patronage to our next concert is realistically achievable, if each member can attract 8 adult paying guests x 56 = 400 plus, then our efforts will be well rewarded.

On the theme of red, Westpac Matamata team are hosting this Thursday 21st a fund raising morning tea and cake for Alzheimer's disease. A progressive disease that destroys memory and other important mental functions.
Supervisors are requested, to help Henry Clothier oversee 4000 tree seedlings to be planted on his property by Interact young folk. Members are asked to be supervisors to support and mentor this project. This will be a great fundraiser for these guys. Tree planting this Sunday 24th September.

We welcomed retired electrician Fraser Cameron, visiting guest from Opotiki. Gordon Lukies (r) was a member of Rotary Opotiki for a few years.

Took on a Gym Club six week challenge, that involved several other people. With a grin from ear to ear, proudly proclaimed losing 6.1 kgs and shrunk 17.5 cms accumulative from 'everywhere'. What's more she won that challenge!
'Slim' also allows me to share with you, that she has lost 18 Kgs over the last 13 months. You have every reason to smile, Natalie.
