Michelle after the Melbourne Cup winners and many losers were decided, declared our meeting open and we went into club night business. Jim Bremner had called her to touch base, club members know of the family tragedy in Otorohanga he has had to support. His brother is still unwell ,but Jim knows of members goodwill thoughts as he dutifully attends his brother in hospital. Michelle reminded members the 100 years of Rotary Foundation. Several Members are to attend the Atlanta Convention June 2017, as that was the city Arch C. Klumph started his endowment fund that became Rotary Foundation. The foundation has distributed over US$3 billion since its inception. Michelle clarified leave of absence (LoA), members only have to seek leave from directors IF members anticipate they will be absent for more than 8 consecutive weeks. Otherwise just leave a message on the club answer phone WITH a date you will next attend a meeting. Debate ensued on NO Refund Nights, which there are two. Christmas function and Change over. Meeting resolved that for these two functions, NO refunds past a gazetted date and time to do so. Members are reminded, no refunds for ordinary meetings if not advised of an apology of not attending such by 9am Tuesday morning, to the club answer phone. Obviously directors discretion as to extenuating circumstance, reference refunds.

TAKE THE TIME TO TALK CAMPAIGN -
Is a Funeral Directors' Association of NZ initiative to encourage New Zeadander's to have a discussion about their last wishes,what matters most in their lives, how they made a difference in this life and their choices for a final farewell.
This Take the time to Talk Campaign follows an initiative run by the DHB's in April this year that was also encouraging families and whanau to talk about their funeral choices.
So some options for last wishes these days and any questions on the subject can be covered next Tuesday.
President Michelle, we have a guide for Rotarians who have or are taking on, different roles or projects. It is a work in progress and any additions or suggestions would be most welcome (to Michelle or David H). Krishna showed us the Keep Kids safe around dogs pictorial well written books. 35 of these books will be distributed around our schools, to help teach our young children to be safe around canines. These books have our Rotary branding at a cost of $500.
Reminder for "Rotary Cambridge at the Trots", fund raiser. Days for Girls will be a benefactor of this evening of Thursday 17th November. 6pm start. $75 pp. 16 members going, 22 in total including partners. Contact David ASP if you would like to go as well.
Mike Farrell has now closed off "Guess who's coming to Dinner". Hosts and guests will an enjoyable evening.
Don Stanley announced eleven (11) proposed conditions by Council, for the Concert by the lake consent process. "Quite sensible ones!"

The Pohlen, Weka Street Car park project was prep on Tuesday and river stone Thursday.
There is an art to leaning on a spade or shovel!! many people do not realise the training involved to look professional with that skill. These Rotarians seem to have it sussed!!!
Qualified Pilot's!! YEP. Pile it here, pile it there for the placement of the river stones. Lindsay T. said we only took 22 minutes to actually place the river stone.
The finished job looks smart, very smart. Staff and visitors were very complimentary on how it looked as well.
Smooth as a baby's bum! Saturday's working bee at Peter and Ineke's was very productive. This area raked smooth, grass seed has been sown as this area will also offer another enhanced view point for guests attending Concert by the Lake. Some members of the team showed dexterity of Chamios and Thar in clearing the cliff type face of tree debri.
Guys did a good job of clearing that cliff face, as you can see in the background.
