Welcome to the first meeting for the new Rotary year, sadly President Stew was unable to preside as he was attending to wife Margaret who suddenly fell ill at the last minute. Luckily our stars David H and Wade were on hand to carry on, with all the heavy lifting aka prep work already been done by Stew.

PP Wade presenting a cheque to Frank Healy - Matamata Indoor and recreation Hub. This has been many year sin the planning, and the stadium has finally been started - Frank was pleased to advise the opening is planned for the start of the 2026 school year. All funds gratefully accepted.

Rotary has been helping partner with Rural Support for a long time now and Wanda informed us this donation would be used to help individuals. Really thrilled for this extra as amongst the ten councils they are affiliated with Matamata are in the top for needing help. Mind you she said that just means they feel they can ask, whereas many others cannot.

Peter Lansdaal from The Musical Theatre. Aside from the Rotarians who assist directly whether as actors, singers, artists, sound crew etc our Club has always attended (where possible) their productions. The money will go towards a new wardrobe storage portacom, which will have new carpet and fittings as a result.

Jane introduced Karla Leadbeater as tonight she was to be inducted as our latest Rotarian. David H. then had the honour (standing for Stew) to welcome Karla into our midst. Karla was a Celebrant, and now is one of the team at Pohlen Hospital. We will hear more from her at a later stage.

Thank you Krishna for that gem.

Members Announcements:

Miranda advised that instead of the annual Quiz and Auction night usually held in May to raise funds for the Westpac chopper, Westpac Matamata had successfully raised just over $28000 from the pub crawl between three of our local establishments held on June 28th. Our community has always very generously got behind this fundraiser.
Michelle reminded of the monthly Rotary breakfast held on the first Friday of every month. This is a casual get together for those who perhaps cannot make it to the morning teas. All are welcome 7.am at Pepper Street Cafe.
Red nose day is on the horizon... 25th July, so start planning on how many gazillion cupcakes you want to make, bake, or buy to help our Public Image with their first project. Janelle will update us soon.
