How we going team? as President David opened our first formal meeting of 2019. Welcome to Rotary people. Hope you all had a good weekend, we went to the Summer Concert in Taupo. Great day, bit noisy though!!  Another plus is that my thoroughbred syndicate interest actually won its first race at Te Teko. Nice to get an update from Dani Navarette, graduated from college, and accepted for a Santiago University University to study Midwifery. By request of members, Farm Watch! Warm, trans evaporation (The combination of two separate processes whereby water is lost on the one hand from the soil surface by evaporation and on the other hand from the crop by transpiration is referred to as evapotranspiration (ET)). so pastures losing moisture due to the wind and hot temperatures.  So pasture quality effects productivity. Cows production down from 1.5 to now 1.3kgs/ms/cow. Soil temp last week was 21c, but almost certain to be around 24c today. On a positive note, breeding looks good. 5/5 on management, 9.65% empty rate for mature cows,, 5.1% MT rate heifers. Scanned 6 week in calf rate for the herd, 89%. On a sad note, recent retired  Fonterra Chair John Wilson passed away. Many dairy farmers will know John gave 25 years of valued service to the Co-Operative. He was 54.
Lachie Duncan introduced our guest speakers(above), Sally Drake and Richard Clothier. Have just started their Kiwi Global Tours Tourism venture. Several members are part of their February tour of Cambodia, Vietnam and briefly Thailand. This itinerary was meeting by chance, a youngman in Cambodia, Hang is trying to develop some local economy for his town of San Riep. There is no work of significance in rural Cambodia. They discussed possibilities of bringing small groups to experience Hang's unique location. Good quality accommodation, excellent food including satay snake and/or insects, friendly people who wish to give a good insight of their culture. Win Win for everyone, at a reasonable cost. Tour starts in Ho Chi Min (Saigon)Vietnam through  Cambodia to Thailand . Leave for home from Bangkok. The tour party will see a tour of contrasts. Great flora and fauna, historical old and new architecture, from modern shopping plaza's to the 17.5 million population of the Mekong Delta. Where the largest floating veggie market is situated. The devastation of the Vietnam War that included Laos and Cambodia, is evident. But the peoples of Vietnam and Cambodia wish to go forward, and do not recriminate on the past. Cambodia had a civil war 1967 to 1998. Genocide saw a large number of adults decrease, leaving basically no role models for the younger generation, such as Hang, to learn skills. There does seem a bright future, if they can produce some economic outcomes. So consequently, your NZ$ goes a long way for good service, experiences and comfort. Some of the major cities do have some obvious outside foreign past and present influences. Before heading off to Thailand, to bathe and feed rescued Elephants as the tour finale, you would have seen the largest World Heritage Park and the biggest Buddhist Temple in the World. Lyn Dobbe thanked Sally and Richard for an enlightening presentation 'Cambodia/South East Asia: An Adventure' and look forward to members return and possibly a review presentation of this February tour.

The air-con situated quite nicely above the lectern, was good for the presenters due to the very warm evening.  Not so good for members in the "cheap seats" !!! ha ha
Sergeant at Arms, Maz McIvor, always on the look out for misdemeanours ! !
Any snippits during the week, prior to
