A few things coming up to keep in mind:

  • Just a note for everyone,  if you are listed on reception duty, please try and arrive early to help with setting up the table and signs etc.
  •
  • Please, please remember to put your apologies in before 9am on a Rotary day, this includes non diners please.
  •
  • Mike Farrell is running the Foodbank Appeal early this year in October. This is to allow for us to get any food and money to them before the Christmas rush. There are going to be many more in need this year due to the higher food prices, so please give generously and lets see if we can make this our biggest donation ever.
  •
  • 17th October we will have a visit to Longlands. This will be from 4.30 to 6.30 with finger food served. A good chance to share our Rotary experiences and encourage others to join.
  •
  • Purple Pinky Day coming up on the 24th October. Our caterers will be donating soup for the meal on this night and our meal money will be given to Purple Pinky Day. Great generosity!
  •
  • Helpers will be required on 18th November for the Pohlen Hospital Open Home & Garden Tour. Shunt sheet going around
  •
  • Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, coming up on the 3rd November - Shunt sheet coming
  •
  • Please remember that you must ring the club answer phone and apologize or advise of extra guests before 9am on any meeting date. Please stipulate the date you are apologizing for to avoid any confusion.

Clues for mystery Rotarian this week, are as follows –

1/ I was milking a herd of cows by myself at the age of 13.

2/ I won a Rotary essay writing contest.

3/ I was joint dux of my secondary school.

Well this has already got me scratching my head and I have to try and figure out who it is!

Will let you know who I think it is.

Good evening all. Well what a fantastic evening we had at our "Tom Sainsbury" night and our effort in raising funds for Pohlen Hospital.

Our MC for the evening, David Hulme did a fantastic job in opening the evening and welcoming everyone to this fun event.

He then invited President Jane Belton on stage and Jane gave all present a quick background into the magnitude of Rotary worldwide and the amazing work that is done.

We had a fantastic crowd with approximately 240 tickets sold for the event.

Tom Sainsbury did a great job of entertaining us, with loads of laughs had by all.
Everyone was encouraged to go and have a look at the desserts to be auctioned, all having been kindly donated, so that they could decide what they were going to bid on.

John Price, the auctioneer, had things well under control and was very good at encouraging bidders to raise the stakes, resulting in some fierce bidding wars.

We raised approximately $11,690.00 from the dessert auction, with an average of $370.00 per dessert with the top seller being a Double Decker Carrot Cake fetching a whopping $570.00, closely followed by a carrot cake donated by O Del Emz cafe, fetching $500.00.
With proceeds form a silent auction on the night also, we have raised approximately $20,000.00.
What a night. Then, rounded up with a photo opportunity with the star of the show Tom Sainsbury.

Just a reminder that it is coming close to planting time for Spud in a Bucket - Labour Weekend, and don't forget that if you don't want to grow a spud, you might like to donate a bucket to someone.
Fantastic idea!

Lots of things coming up for us to help with over the next few months, so keep an eye on the newsletter and help out where you can. Could be a good opportunity to bring along a friend who may be interested in what Rotary does. 😊
