Lincoln Agricultural Students this week.
Ag.Dip. aspiring students leave their desks and lecture rooms.
Embark on  practical on farm visits away from Lincoln. They are exposed to the many different practical types of rural  industries of the land, which are many and varied in the Waikato region especially around Matamata.   Rotary Matamata annually host these students .

  • USED POSTAGE STAMPS:  In a past issue of Rotary Down Under there is a contact of a person in Melbourne who can sell used postage stamps.  If anyone has these, they can be passed to Eric Muckle or Kevin Sing.
‘Just leave stamps on envelope paper, leaving about 1cm margin around the edge.’
NZ stamps are in particular demand.
Many thanks,Jean Muckle.  Please contact:-  Eric and Jean ph.8883784 e. jeneric@xtra.co.nz

David 'Paddy' Latham: Rotarian. David and I arrived together with 12 others to Hamilton, New Zealand 12th July 1970. We were assisted immigrants contracted to Livestock Improvement Association( Waikato) Inc.,  Chairman David Bay, being very welcoming as Herd Testers. Paddy was loyal to that organisation until his retirement. We kept regularly in touch over all those intervening years, in that time I observed his love and care for his mother, his efforts to St John and of course Rotary. When in 2000, my family moved to Buckland Road, Paddy serviced and later oversaw our on farm herd testing requirements. Although in our earlier years we both had significant brogues of our origins , which may I say; was cause for amusement to some !!  So not long after we settled into the Hinuera district,  many times in his toned down Irish brogue and unique grin "I'll get you in Rotary yet"!! Was Inevitable, his well intentioned inspiration for me to be a Rotarian;was realised.

Across the Ditch, Last week,  bush fires stretched as one; from southern New South Wales to NW of Sydney. Photos below show palls of smoke over Bega Co Operative dairy factory. This particular fire at time of photo capture was out of control , due very strong winds. I observed very dry conditions pastoral wise, except for on farm irrigation mosaics in the Bega valley. Believe or Not! One Fire front was catching up with a vehicle doing 150km's down a dirt road, plus  one fire front also reportedly moved nearly 15 kilometres in 30 seconds !!! Editor can now reconcile why people have died in their rural setting homes, thinking they were safe because the nearest bush fire was over 40 km away. Boy, do they move!! Although the locals were  au fait  with annual rogue bush fires,  their  real concern this year is they are 3 months early ! and the current fires cover such a huge geographical area. Everything is so,  so tinder dry. Weather Bureau did not see meteorological developments for precipitation, any time soon.
Rotary Bega also have a good community profile.
This notice acknowledges their Club significant support to South East Regional Hospital in Bega, for the carers/family accommodation units on site.
Something that I will bring up at my next Administration committee meeting, is to suggest that we have our Bulletin on public view like Bega.
This one photo'd at the local MP office window.
