President Peter and Chris nearly home after their African continent Safari.
Vice -president David and Cathy hosted our first Rotary meeting of 2018, at their home. Very nice ambient BBQ meal evening to start off the year. David welcomed Rotarians and guests to the start of the 2018 Rotary Year." For a good happy progressive productive year ahead". Cathy and David were also thrilled to announce their daughter Claire got engaged last weekend, and are now planning the next step in that regard.

We all found a nice spot out of the wind to socialise, and Rob and Sharon of 2 Tones Catering looking quite spiff in their blue tone 'corporate' colours preparing the BBQ meal.

  • Concert by the Lake committee meeting Wednesday 17th Jan. Chair Don Stanley reiterated the quality of our artiste's engaged for the concert. Ticket sales just a smidgeon ahead of this time last year. There may be even a coach load travel down from Auckland for the concert, $90 ticket and return coach travel is a very fair price, so very likely that will eventuate. Don reminded us "Need to make it happen", "We have to be up to the challenge". Obviously Rotarians will have put their efforts to prepare, then on the day assignments  and post concert clear up. So remember, members only discounted four ticket package.( Let David Hulme know, if you may have some folk in Auckland who would like to book a seat/ticket for that coach, ASP).
  • Dani's flight home from Auckland delayed 6hrs, but has arrived home safe and sound with her memories of the past twelve months.
  • El vuelo de Dani a su casa desde Auckland retrasó 6 horas, pero ha llegado sano y salvo a casa con sus recuerdos de los últimos doce meses.
  • Stanley Farm Lane. Official opening Tuesday 13th February 2018,5.30pm. Following by a Tree Planting and Lane walk. At conclusion of that, a BBQ. BYO, plates, cutlery and seating etcetera. An update on this auspicious occasion early next year.
  • Save a life capsules reconfigured to meet Pharmac rules are now available for Purchase.Cost $12 Packet of soluble Aspirin per three capsule set. Lyn Dobbe champion for this Club project. Fact, they actually have literally saved lives.
  • Michelle Tanner does ask for any unused capsules be returned to her, or remove the previous Aspirin, so to meet legal drug detail requirements . The capsule has good other uses , possibly folding up a $20 note , could come in useful if also attached to vehicle key rings.

Every effort is being done by our club organising committee to make this conference a good one, for our DG Leonie T. Plus of course, you have been receiving clubrunner emails on how to register for the Toronto Rotary Convention. Early Toronto convention registration discount, now expired.
This guest editorial in November 2017 RDU, has not gone un-noticed by a few Rotarians.
What are you smiling about, Cathy and David Gasquione.
Another marque within their family they nourished.  Pleased to have announced to us, the engagement of their daughter Claire.

  • Peter Thissen reports that things are looking good at concert venue, sown grass areas just been grazed by sheep. Peter does need a few more hands end of this month, to supplement the help he is already getting from members to just prepare the site ready for the transformation into Waikato's premier open air concert venue. Peter will indicate when we need a team at the venue, to complete some required work.
