Peter opened with his regular welcome to members and guests for fun and fellowship, which is our Club. Tonight is our Club Night, and happy birthday to Merv King, who way back in 1998 was my mentor as a GSE exchangee. Peter and Chris had a mixture of mixed emotions last week. They waved off their daughter Monique and her partner Matthew, who headed off to Thailand to teach. Then attended a funeral. Followed by a birthday celebration of a nephew. Easter was a pleasure and some displeasure for us.
Our two newish members present a bit of their biography.
Natalie van der Goes---talent to burn !!!
Carl Tookey- computer whizz for airlines !!!
Carl Tookey spoke first, born in a small town north of Edmonton, Canada. Had chance to attend a computer course at International Business Machines (IBM), when this technology was in its formative years. This lead to computer programming for telecommunication companies, Canadian Pacific Airlines (CPA) was his first exposure to airline reservations technical requirements. Had a stint with National Airways Corporation (NAC) when being merged with Air New Zealand. Married to Denise, with son Justin born in Vancouver 1982, and Brett Auckland 1985.His technical skills saw him help nationalise the Australian fragmented state railway system, commuting to that job from New Zealand. Ended back with Air New Zealand Reservations, and now contracted 10 hours a week for ANZ reservations systems. Making home that was the old Caltex petrol station at Karapiro. Likes country music, horse riding and dabbled in Poker competitions. Joined Rotary to meet people and give time to our community through Rotary. 4 Aces or a straight flush !!
Local girl Natalie van der Goes, known by many in her community. BA Otago and then followed Teacher Graduate Waikato University. Talented in several musical instruments, which will be a highlight for attendees to District Conference to hear. Currently a teacher at Matamata Primary, wishing for a change, by seeking teaching positions off shore for experience. Some difficulties there, perhaps her Rotarian world Network which she is part of, may be of help. Don't know till one tries that avenue. So vacates her present position soon, and will do some temp work and travel a bit. The highlight of her presentation was her singing with her own guitar accompaniment and power point visuals on screen. her song 'About my life' deserved the applause from members. Wait ---- there's more.. a rising star in Ballroom dancing ( not surprising as Rotary members witnessed her Dad on stage in a Tutu !!) Seriously, Natalie described her progress to a high standard in four dance routines, the Waltz being her favourite. Presently, her dance partner is her coach. In competitions to come, members of the public can attend. The immediate murmur of members, is that it would be great to attend one to support our Rotarian Natalie van der Goes. Carl and Natalie both add honest worthy skill dimensions to Rotary Matamata.
Dictionary's in Schools. Our Public Image committee team plan their visit schedule to Primary Schools, to donate really well put together Dictionary into classrooms. Plus an additional world atlas book into the school library. Glenda Milligan, Barry McKey and Gordon Lukies.

Several 10 place tables sold, Leo Kingston would like to see our club push this function. David Hulme on behalf of the Concert by the Lake organising committee, has presented a comprehensive report to Directors on Concert by the Lake 2018. In essence, the amount of time and effort for little profit is disappointing, and the recommendation is to consider the next one being in 2020.
President Peter said Directors have adopted that report, which is accessible to members on our Club web site. Peter also acknowledged the effort and leadership of retiring Chair of the Concert By The Lake organising committee, DonStanley. So for another Concert, a new chair needs to come forward and take up that challenge. Peter Thissen was also acknowledged for the huge input into venue site development on his and Ineke's property. Once members have had the chance to read the comprehensive report, a club night discussion topic possibly later in the year, on the whys and wherefores and perhaps strategy ideas for consideration for the next concert.

What are you smiling about, Henry Clothier.
22 years ago, quadruple bypass medical intervention. Then later a few other times, being in the right spot for medical resuscitation. Then March had a medical event that required drilling out of previous stents, and got a good answer as to his enquiry "where do the filings go?". They are so small that the kidneys can easily deal with them. I am smiling, because I am speaking to you right now.
Welcome guest to our meeting, Moganraj. A mechanical engineer.
Chrissy Cossill, presented our meal for our meeting. Seems Chrissy is well known by some members, as conversation tended to be about gardening! versatility plus !!

Rotary Matamata wishes to donate fit for purpose educational books to our primary schools and various library's such as our Matamata public library.
To donate a Primary School age fit for purpose up todate world atlas book, to Matamata-Piako District Council Matamata public rate payer funded Library.
Rotary Matamata first has to write a letter of intent to council of that fact to do so. Then a council committee will at a convened meeting, deliberate whether to accept or otherwise this gift.
Council will then advise their decision to Rotary Matamata .
