Evening and welcome friends, members and guests. Those who do not know me, I am
David Gasquione, President Rotary Matamata for term 2018-2019. Not to be confused with President D.Trump I think! Good to see so many guests, especially our fellow Matamata community Service Club members, and share this evening to acknowledge 125 of Woman's Suffrage. We must promote more interaction between us service clubs, that benefit our community. Therefore a very special welcome to our guest speaker Liz Coutts ONZM and husband Roger. My claim to fame is I  went to Matamata College with Elizabeth Coutts nee Wilson. On a sad note, Audrey Langlands passed away; a good supporter of Rotarian Ron who was an active member for Rotary Matamata over several decades. They had also celebrated 65 years of married life this year. Farm Watch: 96% cows calved, 2.1kgs  average per cow /ms/day, soil temp 13c, no rain until today, 28 day rotation and has applied 80 units Nitrogen/ha. Spring has definitely arrived.
Ann Duncan (L) introduced guest speaker Liz Coutts ONZM. President David presided over a very good meeting attendance of members and guests to this 125th acknowledgment of  Womans' Suffrage. Jane Belton(R) also has a curriculum vitae to be our Club member,to thank Liz for her considered presentation.
Ann Duncan presented a brief concise background of Liz Coutts that included being one of the Wilson family five siblings ,brought up on a dairy farm in Hinuera and acknowledged Matamata College remarkable ability; to have educated many woman who have had achieved so much. Such as Dame Cath Tizard, Judith Collins MP, Casey Kopua, Dr.Penny Kneebone.  Liz Coutts thanked Rotary Matamata for the invitation to speak, and suggested that her being a Rotary Matamata Youth Exchange Student to Toronto Canada 1976; was the catalyst that set her on the career journey she has achieved to date. An enormous appreciative thank you for that. Liz gave a brief synopsis of two well known companies that she is a professional director board member of. 1. Ports of Auckland. 100% owned by Auckland City Council. Strategy is to serve Auckland, serve New Zealand's freight needs and be a world class sea port for the  export and import business. Noted Ports of Auckland has received unsolicited awards for its ability to handle huge container  ship freight and multi cargo conventional cargo ship traffic efficiently. 200 cruise ships berth as well. Automation, advance in technology has increased its infrastructure ability without increasing its operational footprint. Our New Zealand population  require .6 ( point 6) of an imported container per person per annum is the current statistic , and that rate is trending upwards; which demands a robust 30 year plan to be in place.  Empty containers are also an item that requires good logistical management, more so for Ports of Auckland than Tauranga .Waikato's Golden Triangle of inland ports , road and rail links are the main feeders of container and multi cargo to the Port of Auckland. 2. Being on the board of governance   Skellerup Industries, is much more than the iconic Red Bands gumboots.
We have supplied farmers and industries with reliable, dependable, quality products that provide high quality solutions for an extraordinary range of applications. Our strength and our future lies in our vast portfolio of niche products – from industrial rubber products, dairy rubberware, waterproof footwear, closed-cell foam products, mining products, vacuum pumps and construction products. Based in Christchurch, Skellerup Industries Limited (SIL) and sells its product throughout the world with its largest export market into the USA. SIL is part of the Skellerup Holdings Limited (SHL)  globally designing and supplying Agri and Industrial products for customers across the world. Strong domestic and international demand for our core agricultural and industrial rubber goods, the range and depth of products manufactured and marketed by Skellerup continues to grow. Our strength and our future lies in our extensive range of reliable, dependable, quality products  – from industrial rubber products, farm supplies and farm equipment, dairy rubberware (we are the second largest manufacturer in the world), to waterproof footwear, mining products, vacuum pumps and construction products. 'Extreme Fire Fighters Gumboots' are to seen all over the world. In finishing. Jane Belton thanked Liz for accepting our Club invitation to speak at this Womans' Suffrage themed agenda meeting, and that Rotary had an influence to where you are today.

'Who Has Inspired' .. Kate Sheppard.
Born on March 10, 1847, in Liverpool, England, Kate Sheppard moved to New Zealand in the late 1860s. In 1885, she founded the Women's Christian Temperance Union and, two years later, became leader of its suffrage campaign. Several suffrage bills failed before New Zealand Parliament finally granted women the right to vote in 1893. Sheppard was later active in woman suffrage movements in other countries. She died in New Zealand in 1934. Kate Sheppard died on July 13, 1934, in Christchurch, New Zealand. Her influence and legacy, however, have endured. Not only is her image displayed on New Zealand's $10 note, the Kate Sheppard Memorial in Christchurch was unveiled in 1993—the centennial of New Zealand's passage of the women's suffrage bill.
